THE CLOTHES
The most distinctive feature of Ruby's outward appearance is his hat, undeniably his wonderful hat, that is so hard to describe with terms relate-able(I had no idea this wasn't a word D:<) to what you see in day to day life. The unique thing about his hat is that it is of a shape original only to Ruby's own unique fashion style. The hat is mainly a white color, while the band-Wait, actually, although Ruby has been known to wear several versions of his costume, like Sapphire, nowadays you'll find him in this epic costume as he lurks around Lyeant-is all red with a white pokeball pattern on the front. The back of the hat sticks out in four spikes, all in a row, and have, in the past, sometimes been mistaken for hair, sometimes giving Ruby a first glance description of a red-eyed trainer with white hair and a red bandanna(what? bandanna is spelled with 2 n's??). Even Sapphire herself at first called Ruby out on being a delinquent who bleached his hair white, to which Ruby promptly corrected, "It's a HAT!" Anyway, Ruby's stylish hat generally covers all of his shiny black hair, only except for his eyebrows, and the little bit in front of his ears that everyone's got.

Moving on to -let's keep it simple- his gloves. Ruby wears red, finger-less(this wasn't a word either? Google Chrome is giving me spelling lessons ;w;) gloves, that which have a circular hole revealing the back of his hand, and a black band with a red stripe covers his wrists. His shirt is of two colors, shiny black and red, and did I forget to mention that Ruby sews his own clothes? If only Ruby would style all the clothes in kohls/shot. The shirt has t-shirt sleeves coming halfway down his arm, which are black. On his front, there is a circular red pokeball symbol on his chest, while the area below is also red, cut in half by a black stripe. Ruby wears baggy black rolled up pants over a pair of equally shiny black pants beneath, his outfit finished with a pair of shoes that his father, Norma, the Petalburg Gym Leader, that give him the ability to, well, fly-ish. On the bottom of the shoes are built-in mechanisms that allow him to take on high speeds as he finds himself shooting off to wherever he pleases with the compressed air released by his shoes. The shoes themselves have a base color of red, the sole being covered in black rubber, and a band of black going over the top of his feet. The toe of the shoes have a white band surrounding, in a semi-circle shape, a semicircle of neon green color. The green color goes on to where a tongue would be, but it is sewn right into the shoe.

Being near-sighted, Ruby has a pair of glasses, but he isn't often seen wearing these as much as he is seen without even though no one looks better in glasses than Ruby. Ruby has his own sewing and knitting kit, which he uses to make his own clothes, as well as clothes for all his pokemon to wear, and he has even made Sapphire the clothes she is usually seen wearing. Other things you'll see Ruby with are his set of photography items, a camera, and a photo album of all his pokemon's biggest moments, such as evolution, or contest victories. If you ask him about it, he'd love to show you them, and is not shy about showing off about them either. In contests, Ruby is shown to even have his own microphone.

THE GENETICS
For what he was named after, Ruby's up-slanted eyes are a deep crimson shade of red. He has long eyelashes to finish off the angled shape of his eyes, also seen in his father's, and is a shape only shared with Platina Berlitz, even though he has never met the female Sinnoh dex-holder as far as we know. He has very fair skin, in contrast to his shiny black hair, which he takes time to wash thoroughly, with lots of conditioner, even though he never really takes his hat off to show the efforts of all that work in the shower. Even with a status of being a Team Imum grunt, Ruby has not taken any priority off his personal values: keeping his pokemon looking their best, and pursuing his dream of becoming the greatest pokemon coordinator. Neither has it kept Ruby from keeping his skin so flawless with all the lotions and acne creams he owns.

In structure, Ruby seems more delicate when compared to most men that you'd be used to, in sharp contrast to the rough, gruff, football player-ish image that comes with the idea of being a man. That sort of image is anything but what Ruby himself would describe as the ideal image. Ruby is always seen holding himself with sophistication and disdain, while presenting his pokemon as exquisitely beautiful. While Ruby is fascinated in the art of beauty and majesty in everything he does, he strongly avoids anything "barbaric" of the sort.

THE PERSONALITY

PERSONALITY;;

The most obvious trait of Ruby's personality would undoubtedly be his love for beautiful things. He prides himself in his fashion, and in his efforts to make his pokemon look splendid and beautiful. As such, his passion in life is in Pokemon Contests. Ruby, unlike most boys his age, or any age for that matter, is not ashamed of his passion for beauty and fashion, nor of using it, making himself quite the amazing oddity, and in total opposite forms of personality with Sapphire, his rival and fellow pokedex holder.

Only complimenting his love for beauty, Ruby has a disdainful hatred of battling, thinking battles to be barbaric, and that they make pokemon get all dirty, something that is horrifying to him. The irony is that he is an excellent battler, and is rather exquisite in pokemon battling. This does not draw on his skills for Pokemon Contests either, though, which he is talented in as well.

As all characters, Ruby has flaws, but interestingly enough, he has a colorful assortment of them. Although he has started to try to be fairer and less judgemental, he has shown to favor more graceful pokemon over the "ugly" ones. You can't keep him away from a splendid Milotic, while you could probably never convince him to touch a Muk with a ten-foot pole. This little trait of his has gotten him into trouble, but it is just the way he is.

Now for the one of the more major topics of Ruby's, the 'who's'. Although manga records show Ruby to have confessed his love to Sapphire, nowadays Ruby will most often pretend he's forgotten if you were to bring it up. Ruby tends to keep things to himself more often then naught, for reasons of his own. For example, he had kept his real skill in pokemon battling a secret from Sapphire for the longest time, until a time when Ruby was forced to fight to protect everyone.

Ruby was actually born in Goldenrod City in Johto and lived there for most of his elementary school years. At that time, his father, Norman, was working to try to become a Gym leader. Once, Norman took his family to Hoen in his quest to become a Gym leader, where Ruby met Professor Birch's daughter, Sapphire. At a young age, Ruby, ironically, was more of a wild boy, who loved to battle and fight with his pokemon. Always recklessly getting himself into trouble and playing outside, Ruby was often seen with several scratches all over, and band aids on his knees and elbows. He was a typical young rascal of his age, as most young boys were. His father was a friend of Professor Birch, so Ruby often got to visit Sapphire while his father worked with the professor. Even then, the children were absolute opposites, as Sapphire at the time was more like a girl than Ruby is now, wearing pink frilly dresses and the sort, and avoiding rough, dirtying things like battling.

The two actually got along well even with their vast majority of differences. Ruby, the son of a soon-to-be Gym leader, was even then very skilled at battling with pokemon, and loved to show off his skills for Sapphire. It was one day that Ruby somehow managed to convince Sapphire to go outside where they played together all day long. That was how it was for a short, but precious time of Ruby's life. Then a Salamence appeared. Sapphire was terrified, so naturally, Show-Off Ruby stepped in to protect Sapphire with his pokemon. He did manage to fight it until it fled, but not with out receiving a violent head injury in the process. The whole ordeal was so violent that Sapphire could only sob "scary" over and over once it was over, and Ruby then began to become painfully aware of how violent and barbaric he had acted in front of his best friend, and vowed to become a more gentle person. He never wanted to make Sapphire cry again. He did not know that Sapphire also blamed herself for being weak, and had vowed to become a stronger person.

That was the major turning point of both of their lives. Later, it turns out that the Salamence Ruby had fought had broken into the place where the legendary pokemon, Rayquaza, was being held, setting it free. Ruby's father took the blame for the accident and was failed the gym leader test, unbeknownst to Ruby at the time. Ruby's father left for a long journey then to hunt down Rayquaza, having been banned from taking the Gym Leader Test for five years. Years later, Norman became the gym leader of Petalburg City in Hoenn, and moved his family to Hoenn on Ruby's eleventh birthday. Ruby, already in a bad relationship with his father due to his newly found love of contests and dislike for battles, something his father did not approve of, was angry at his father to his limits, and decided right then to run away in order to pursue his dream of winning all the Pokemon contests. It turns out, ironically, that his father was about to surprise him for his birthday by letting him go pursue his dream and do contests.

Alright, now I'm seriously going to stop going into detail before I narrate the entire story page by page, and if you want to know the details, you'll have to read the manga >:3

So Ruby and Sapphire met again, not remembering each other. Due to their differences, they set a goal of 80 days to see who could win all the pokemon contests or defeat all eight gyms of Hoenn first. Together, the two fought Team Magma and Team Aqua, and had many adventures. The two came to remember each other, and even confessed their feelings for each other. Together, they saved Hoenn from destruction, and later saved Hoenn a second time from Guile Hideout. Ruby came to terms with his father's real intentions, and everyone lived happily ever after-not.

Oh no, the happy days never last, do they? Well, Ruby and Sapphire never really came to terms with how to go about with their feelings, and the complications seemed to slowly but surely widen the gap between them. Ruby less frequently talked to Sapphire about his life, and the same went for Sapphire, and in all honesty, Ruby hated what was becoming of their relationship. Eventually, it got to the point where the two heroes let themselves be immersed in their own separate jobs and dreams. Sapphire moved to Lyeant for an opportunity to become a Gym leader, and Ruby, well...

Ruby continued to be the greatest Pokemon coordinator in all of Hoenn for a little while longer, until one day, he came home on news that his mother was attacked at home by a pokemon. His mother was terribly wounded, and it was only that Ruby managed to get there in time that he was able to get her to the hospital in time to save her. His father, Norman closed down the gym in order to find out who had done this, for the evidence was obvious that it was a planned attack by a pokemon trainer with a pokemon foreign to Hoenn. The investigation led to Ruby and his father chasing a few Imum grunts all the way to the edge of Hoenn, where a vicious battle ensued. Norman received an injury to his legs by the attack from the Imum grunt's Pinsir, so Ruby finished the battle, sending the foes fleeing into a submarine that had been prepared for a quick escape. With Norman unable to battle, Ruby quickly left Coco and Popo to protect his father while Norman's slowking carried him home, took Mimi and Zuzu, as he had left Nana and Ruru at home to protect his mother, and took off after the Imum grunts, swearing that he would stop them and bring them to justice.

Ruby almost didn't make it through the desperate over-sea chase, and it took everything he, Mimi, and Zuzu had to keep up on the criminals' trail. That was when he found himself in the Lyeant region, the home region of Team Imum. Ruby resumed his chase of the Team Imum members, but he soon discovered the enormity of this powerful organization, led by an even more powerful leader, and for the first time since almost losing to Team Aqua and Team Magma, Ruby found himself unable to stand up to this powerful organization. Still, as he found out, this wicked group was evil, and was attacking and killing many innocent people. What was most horrifying was that the team was targeting the Dex holders, and Sapphire was in the most danger. Team Imum already had begun attacking Ruby's family in order to get at him, and Ruby realized that nothing could stay the same as it was before.

Team Imum would attack and kill anyone to get what they wanted. That was when Ruby made the dreadful sacrifice for everyone he loved; to join Team Imum in hopes to stop them from within. It was a desperate gamble, but to Ruby, it was the only option to protect Sapphire, Norman and his mother. At first, naturally, the Imum leaders were suspicious of Ruby's offer, but, seeing the advantages of having a Dex holder in close proximity under the command of an Executive, they let him join. No one yet knows of Ruby's decision, not even Sapphire.
