Then again, that's kind of the point, is it not? Rain. It pelted the ground with unrelenting drops, thick as they had been that month. The sky had grown dark, the cotton candy clouds that draped the blue sea above them painted a dark gray instead. The sun was all but block out of the sky, it's brilliance light no longer wanted by the dark masses that obscured it's sight to the world below. Soon, dirt had given way to a much sloppier foe - mud - and not a blade of grass was left without being soaked. Lightning shattered the heavens as the sky lion, more commonly known as thunder roared in it's wake, shaking the earth to it's roots. And to think it had been so nice out the passed few days. The sound of footsteps bounced off the walls of a certain cave, creating an all but eerie noise. The rhythmic pitter patter of rain cascading on the dirt and rock below it's maker was no longer present, it's soothing sounds no longer able to reach humans ears this far into the caverns. Torches lined the walls, dully illuminating the path carved out of a mountain so many years ago. But the flames were spaced far apart and their flames near a dieing point. It didn't do much to make the place any more welcome; if anything, it made the whole experience all the more traumatic for one certain female who had dared to enter in search of a thrilling adventure. And an adventure she would get - it was just off to a fairly rough start. "Gah, I hate caves!" The words echoed throughout the caves much like her footsteps had just moments in advance, angry, tired, and upset, all at the same time. There was a hint of desperation if one was to listen carefully as the person who had uttered those four words was, very much desperate. Desperate for an exit. The stone walls and stone floor, all tinted shades of golden and red in the flickering light of the torches looked the exact same as the stone walls and stone floor a few yards into the cave. Actually, it looked the same everywhere. A maze was what this place was, not a cave or a cavern. A labyrinth meant to trap the fools who decided that this place would be a good place to explore. And, as much as she hated to admit it, Sapphire was one of those fools. An adventure was what she had wanted and a cave that could be full of special rocks, minerals, and possibly jewels appealed to her when she first heard of it. After all, the man Steven Stone from the region in which she was born loved rocks more than he had loved any woman. Surely there had to be some interest in them with that idea. That, or Steven just wasn't meeting the right people. At that moment in time, the brunette was leaning heavily on option two. If there was anything interesting about the cave and it's rocks, well... Well... Than she was Giratina itself! Picking up one of said stones, she brought it to her eyes in order to examine it closer. Rocks were just rocks... right? Maybe there was something special about the ones that you find in caves, though. Yeah, that would make sense. It was certainly explain why some people were so intrigued by the hard matter. However, upon looking at it closely - very closely. So much, she almost touched her eyes with the dirtied thing - she gave up, realizing that it had no significance over any other rock she'd seen before. "Why do people even like this place?" she demanded aloud, tossing the smooth object in her hand in anger. The projectile his one of the walls, causing more eerie noises to rip through the place. Startled, the red-clothed female leapt into her Pokemon's arms, looking for the duel-type to protect her from whatever "monsters" the cave possessed. Okay, let's be completely honest. This place scared to crud out of her. "I shouldn't have come her, should I have, Toro?" the blue-eyed female asked her Blaziken, getting down all while treading carefully. Who know what the dreaded place had in store for a person like herself. "I mean, I told myself I wouldn't go further into the cave than I needed to... But I did, anyway." There was a hint of annoyance in her tone, but, for the most part, she was worried, and this wasn't an emotion the Strong Girl, the Wild Girl dealt with often. Maybe the prospect of being lost for an eternity in the maze of a cave, only being freed when she died wasn't exactly appealing to her. Not that the darkness and the fading torches made it any better for her. When she'd first entered the place dubbed the No Man's Cavern, it had been to find a quiet place to train in peace. After she had to save that silver-haired boy after he feel off a cliff of all things during one of her training sessions, she wanted to make sure that her next one went undisturbed. So, again, dark caves were dark. With the threat of a thunderstorm - the first time in so long - many people wanted to stay home, not be out and about, forced to take shelter in a scary cave. It was the perfect idea! That was, until she saw something deeper within the depths of the cavern. She told herself she'd remember exactly what route she took and would return to the exact spot in which she started off. Of course, the universe enjoys toying with little people stuck in caves, apparently. "We're lost! I can't believe it! I'm a a nature girl. I live in it. Heck, me and nature? We're best buds! So why do I hate this cave so much?" Oh, well, that was an easy one. It was because it have bested her. Made her feel lost, pathetic and, to be entirely honest, just a little bit scared. ... Okay, little was a lie. Very scared. And she was supposed to be the strong one? Yeah, right! As if! If the dark can scare me so much, than I guess I'm not as strong as I really think I - Suddenly, her own thoughts were cut off when everything went dark. Utterly and completely... dark. "Ah!" the gym leader wailed, clinging to her sparring partner for dear life. The fire from the torches had been dimming swiftly as she threw herself into her own fantasy world and, while she wasn't paying attention, they'd blown out on their own, not enough oxygen to eat up and keep the flames running any longer. For a few moments, the two were left in utter darkness, the shorter of the two figures refusing to let go of the taller. However, after prying her trainer off of her, Toro, being the fire-type that she was, used a gentle fire attack to relight all the torches. "O-oh," Sapphire muttered, tucking a few strands that had fallen in her face during her spazz attack behind her ear. "I forgot. You're a fire-type, right... You know, you could've done that - ah!" Was the whole world out to get her? ... Yeah. Yeah, it was. A large... mass - a Pokemon? A human, maybe? - appeared, blocking her path and causing her to trip over it. She'd been walking backwards as she spoke to the chicken-like creature all while ignoring it's pleas for her to turn around and see the figure before she tripped over it, so there was no way she would have been able to see it. Suddenly, there was water before her sapphire blue eyes and, in less than a heartbeat, she was submerged in water. "Gah!" she cried, forgetting for a moment that she could, in fact, swim. After flailing about for a good two minutes, her Blaziken grew tired of the scene before her. Picking up her train with ease, she set the brunette down on the ground next to the pool of water. "Arg! Why didn't I see that over-sized puddle -" Blue eyes feel on what - no, rather whom - she had tripped on, noticing that it was a human, just like herself. Suddenly embarrassed, she stuttered, "Oh, um - I didn't see you there! I mean... I didn't mean to bump into ya' or anything! And, er, surely you don't... Erm... Nevermind..." Finding she was only making the situation worse, she eventually trailed off, not saying anything more. Would they be mad at her for hitting them, then probably splashing water all over them? Heh, so be it. I'm always up for another punching bag to practice on.[/style][/style] |
