It was a bright sunny day, and for some reason there was a cliff on this particular section of beach. Atop the cliff, a young trainer had managed to get horribly, horribly lost.
Keiran walked along the edge of the cliff, wondering where even he had managed to end up and if he was ever going to see another person in his life. The silver-haired boy had been lost for at least a day, probably a few days. He hadn't been mauled by any wild Pokemon yet, there was something going for him at least. And neither had his one Pokemon, so there was that.
As he kept walking, though, there was the sudden noise of a passing bird Pokemon. He flinched at juuust the right moment that he didn't look where he was stepping and accidentally put his foot down on some loose soil. Immediately, the cliff edge just kind of crumbled and Keiran was tossed off the edge of the cliff by that dastardly force known as gravity.
Logically, if there was anyone around who could possibly help him, he figured giving a terrified scream might attract their attention.
"AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!"
--------------Meanwhile...---------------
Siana was exploring the edge of the beach with her loyal Flygon padding along after her. Kheselyth was not exactly much of a fighting force compared to her other Pokemon, but he was her oldest partner and the two of them were rarely apart. A Gym Leader could afford to have a Pokemon that wasn't part of their battling team, especially one so loyal, she assumed.
As she continued to walk along the edge of the beach, she could see a cliff rising up above the beach not too far ahead. Her Flygon chose this moment to rest his head on her shoulder with a very quiet sound meant only for her. She patted his head absently as they continued on, leaving a trail of sandal prints and soft round pawprints in the sand behind them.
Siana had her attention to the sea, but suddenly a sound caught her attention. It sounded like someone had fallen off a cliff and was screaming, actually. Looking ahead to the cliffs, she didn't actually see anyone falling, but that was a pretty specific scream. She started to run ahead to investigate, Khese quickly talking the cue and flying on ahead of her to see what was going on.

Well, at least, they must have been. A lot of people did a lot of stupid things and everyone else just went right along with it because they did plenty of stupid things themselves. Sure, they were scolded a bit, but it wasn't like anyone ever did anything to make sure that idiot didn't turn right around and do it again. So, yes. One could say that there were a lot of very stupid people who lived in that world. Sadly, it was one thing that would never change.
And she just happened to run into the most idiotic of them all.
The sun was shining, that much was obvious. Was there ever a day in her life when it wasn't? No, she couldn't recall any. Unless the sun magically curned out, only to ignite itself within the next second while she was asleep or busy blinking. Clouds weren't a thing to wory about on that particular afternoon - they'd all been banished from the blue sky, not to distrupt the brillant light that the star in the sky was giving up until some actually strolled in. But the next few days were promising more fair weather and the idea that more than a few tiny, whispy masses of water vapor clinging to dust particles in the air was a little far fetched. The grass was was as green as usual. Well, at least, one would assume. Not like there was any grass to look at while on the beach.
"Okay, Toro, come at me! Give it all you got!"
The sound of a furious battle cry erupted the serene peace a place like the ocean side provided. Anyone visiting who was in a fifty feet radius would probably grow annoyed with this noise, guessing as it wasn't the first time it resounded throughout the area that day. Oh, no. In fact, this was probably the third time in the past half hour. Sure enough, if one squinted and tilted their head at a fourty-five degree angle, they could see two figures quite a ways off from the water, fight each other with only their fists. One was noticably taller than the other and deformed for a human. Well, it looked normal for a Pokemon. And why shouldn't it have? It was a Blaziken, after all.
Sapphire let out the occational pant of exhaustion as her left arm hit away her fire-type's punch and her left threw a punch of it's own. She'd been at this for some time - and hour, if not two to be entirely honest - and had only taken the occational break. She was determined to be able to knock a Pokemon out using only her fists and instincts and her most trusted partner was the best sparing opponent. If she could defeat a Pokemon without assistance from her partners... Well, if there was ever a time that she didn't have her Pokemon on her or they were to weak to battle, wrestling with the opponent could easily save her life.
The two threw constant punches at one another, neither letting up. At least, one of them wasn't. The duel-type Pokemon, on the other hand, was beginning to slow his pace, his attacks using less force and his drive lacking in comparison to the female's. With a hard punch that was sloppily blocked, the wind was knocked out of said Pokemon and it was sent toppling over. But the trainer had no time to celebrate her first victory over her opponent. If anything, she was more upset about the whole situation than joyous that she'd defeated the female Blaziken.
"Toro, I told you that you had to hit me with your best shot! What were ya' doing? Yer not gonna be able to help me with weak hits like that!" she scolded, fuming that the Pokemon had gone easy on her. It was probably due to her exhaustion. Her breathing was becoming more and more ragged as the minutes ticked by and, if they keep going at the rate they were, she would probably faint within the next hour. Of course, this was overlooked easily. All the blue-clothed female wanted was to be able to defeat her partner fair and square and she would not be able to do so if she went easy on her. "Now quit acting like a weeny and punch me with all you've got!"
Simply following orders, the Pokemon attacked her trainer with a single fist, sending the brunette flying backward and toppling into the sand with a thud. For a split second, the chicken-like creature worried about her safety and pondered whether she had over done it in the slightest. However, said trainer lifted her hand into the air, all fingers curled down except for her thumb in a thumbs up. "Yep..." she said weakly, arm falling back to the ground. "Now that's what I'm talkin' about..." The fire-type, after crossing the distance between the two, helped hoist her into the air and tried to assess the damage. Well, nothing was broken, that was for certain. However, she'd have a pretty nasty bruise on her back the next morning.
"Ouch..."
Brushing the pain aside with nothing more than a cheesy grin, the blue-eyed gym leader tried to hide her limp. Oh, yes. That was right. This wild girl was a gym leader. Put in charge of Ishya City, she literally lived on top of a volcano. It was certainly hot there, but her team of all fire-types greatly enjoyed it and, as long as they were happy, so was she. What would Coach think...? she pondered, comanding Toro to come at her again and throwing herself into a brawl once more. Couch would be refering to Winona, the gentle flying-type master of Fortree City all the way back in Hoenn - her place of birth. The woman had trained her for a breif period of time and she would never forget the wonders she'd done for her. Would she be proud? Is she already proud? Dunno. I don't think there's anyway to communicate with the other regions without actually going there... Boo...
Lost in her thoughts, Sapphire had missed something. She could tell when she knocked over her Blaziken for a second time without even putting one hundred percent into her blows. Snapping out of her trance, she looked to Toro with a confused looked. That was all the fire-type needed to see before pointing to a cliff - funny how she'd never even noticed it before then. No, it wasn't the cliff she was pointing but, rather, the person falling off.
Yep.
She just had to run into all of the stupid people.
"Toro, wait here" she said, unwrapping her bag from her waist so she wouldn't lose any of her berries in the run. "Looks like I've got to save another idiot. Do all guys like throwing themselves off cliff faces?" With that, the blue-clothed female made a mad dash for the cliff side. Had it always been the close? Had the two female fighters been moving back without knowing it and been completely oblivious to the it the entire time? Whatever the reason, the run was short and, with skills that she'd perfected over time, she began climbing the cliff face. If her timing was just right...
There!
Just as the free falling frame passed her, she reached out to grab them by the arm. With any luck, she would have stopped them from falling to their doom, causing a buit of injury, but only enough to whine about in the morning. At least they'd be around in the morning this way. Climbing back down the cliff face, she was greeted by her Pokemon who had disobeyed orders by arriving on the scene. Not like it had made much of a difference, anyway. When the Pokemon handed her the tan pack she always had around her waist, she nodded to it and did just that - tied it around her waist. "Thanks, Toro," she grunted before turning to the silver-haired idiot who must have had a death wish.
"You!" Sapphire cried, throwing her hands in the air in anger. "What do you think you were doing? You enjoy falling off cliff sides and breaking your neck? Do you want to be dead right now? 'Cause I can beat the crud outta ya' if you really wanted to die in that fall." She wasn't actually going to beat him up if that was a suicidal attempt. If he had actually wanted to die... Well... Well to bad! She'd hang around him and make sure he didn't die! She might have been a little ticked off sue to him being so stupid, but that didn't mean she wished him dead. "Do you know what you just did? I could be training over there with Toro right now! We could be trying to punch each other's brains out, but no! Mister fancy pants here decided he needed to be rescued today! How are you gonna make up for this? Huh? 'Cause I wanna know!"[/style][/style] |

Just as Keiran had been starting to think that he was indeed going to end up falling to his death, a young woman who he had definitely not seen suddenly noticed him falling. It was over in seconds- she caught him and stopped his fall, the remaining bit of distance down didn't hurt him any more, and that was that.
Not only had he managed not to die, he had in fact found another human. Though that was debatable, given the fact that, as he glanced over his rescuer, it was apparent that she had been fighting the Blaziken that accompanied her. Keiran made a mental note not to piss her off any more than he already had.
The fact that he had already pissed her off was apparent in her angry tone, her words, and her expression. She probably wasn't too pleased that his problems had interrupted whatever she was doing previously.
"I'm sorry for inconveniencing you," Keiran said, using his politest tone, though as usual his voice lacked emotion. "It was not my intention to fall off the cliff. I was lost and momentarily distracted, and the terrain was unstable. I do appreciate the assistance, thank you. I am not exactly a fan of falling from ludicrous heights." He attempted a small, polite smile, and rubbed his shoulder a bit. Oww. He managed not to flinch, but that was going to be bothering him for... some time now, probably.

Few things tore her away from her training session, truly. Food had it's way of calling her, distracting her from anything she was doing. Even if someone was dying, she'd have to make a great effort to not dash away from the scene, stuff herself silly, and try not to choke on her run back. Sleep was another thing, though it may not have seemed like it. She would stay up past midnight and into the very early hours, only to awake for the next day around six and seven thirty. However, when someone suggested a nap or theat she head off to bed early, she got out of there was quick as she could. She slept like an Ursaring, as well - you'd have to hit her in the head with a frying pan without knocking her out cold if you wanted to actually get her up. Really, should could care less about everything else - other than food and sleep, her training meant everything to her.
Because, honestly, without it, what was she?
She would have ended up a docile, girly girl had she not dedicated herself to becoming stronger. She would sit at home all day in her frilly little dresses sipping on her silly little tea and she would actually enjoy it, sickening as it may have sounded. She wouldn't have a Pokemon to her name. Maybe Toro would still belong to her, but the Blaziken would likely still be in her Torchic stage and be more of a pet to snuggle with and helo out around the home than a battle trained Pocket Monster meant for, well, battling. She would have never entered that forest, would have never beat all those gym leaders, and would not have become a gym leader herself.
Toro had seemed a bit opposed to the idea of attacking her master directly. After all, the brunette could have easily gotten hurt in the process, leaving her burned by fire attacks and sore from blocking and taking multiple punches. But the bandana wearing female convinced the duel-type that it would be fine. Of course, the first day, she had to spend a few days at the Pokemon Center, recovering from her wounds. She didn't tell her partner to let up, though; if she did let up, she was scolded. But, finally, she managed to be able to stand a bit of a chance against the Pokemon. Over time, she caught up in strength, leaving her at where she was at that moment - match up, neck and neck.
"Just a little more, Toro," she would always tell the female Pokemon, usually winded from a long training session. She'd scratch the fire-type under the chin - kind of like a Skitty or Meowth, it had always been the chicken's favorite - and help wipe any access dirt from her feathers. "I can see us now, Toro. We'll fight and I'll finally knock you over. No offense, I mean, but ya' gotta admit - that's gonna be pretty sweet." The loyal Pokemon would always agree, rubbing up against her master in a mixture of agreement and joy, to which Sapphire would get knocked over, laugh, and start their rough housing all over again.
What one can take from all of this is that this male, the moron with silver hair and a death wish was... lucky. She could have simply ignored his falling frame and continued to brawl with Toro. He could have died and she wouldn't care because she would be saving so many others in her pursuit of power. Of course, that's not how the entire scene had played out, did it? Certainly not, otherwise, she wouldn't have been there, one fist rised in righteous fury and the other clenched at her side, ready to punch the poor boy's guts out in a heartbeat. Maybe she would have her position revoked... maybe not. But her job as gym leader was almost the last thing on her mind at that point in time. She could punch the living daylights out of him and only realize, "Oh crud, I could get fired!" the moment she entered her gym.
That didn't mean she wasn't still angry with him, though.
"I'm sorry for inconveniencing you," he began to apologize. His tone was... slightly polite, slighty... not? It almost seemed as though his heart wasn't truly into what he was saying to her. "It was not my intention to fall off the cliff. I was lost and momentarily distracted -" Momentarily distracted. Right. Like she was going to believe that. "- and the terrain was unstable. I do appreciate the assistance, thank you. I am not exactly a fan of falling from ludicrous heights." He smiled at her faintly, rubbing his shoulder as he did so. She did not smile back. If anything, she looked at him with a look that screamed, "what the huh?"
"Er... Was any of that English? Toro, please tell me he's speakin' the same language. 'Cause, I swear, I didn't understand a word you just sad." She laughed at him - no, not particularly a friendly one. Her tone was to mocking to be friendly - throwing her index finger in his direction. "Do ya' think that anyone's gonna listen to you like that? Yer gonna scare away more people talking like than than actually have a conversation with 'em." This was just her luck. First, he throws himself off the cliff side. Then, he was speaking words that she had never even heard of. He was practically begging her to punch him!
Of course, that's "uncivil".
Instead, she decided to try and put the near death experiance behind her and try to not be so... "mean" to the poor male trainer. "Ya' know, I'm only teasing you," she stated, even though that was a lie. There was a fine line between teasing and straight out laughing at a person. "Though throwing yourself off a cliff? Not exactly the best way to approach a person." That, on the other hand, was the truth. Let this be a lesson to you all: when throwing yourself off a cliff, know that there is little a chance of someone actually catching you. And you're probably not going to meet anyone to converse with, either.
"What didja say before? You were lost? What were ya' doing before you got lost, huh? If you were going sight seeing, sights are much better by the water, not on this dirty ol' cliff." That was also true. For a moment, she thought about what she'd just said and to his statement before that. "... You mean, you seriously got lost up here? I mean, really? It's not even a maze, or anything! You can see everything around you! How in the name of Arceus did you get lost?"[/style][/style] |
