((Shinx hunting, please. :3 ))
So you're telling me that this Pokemon has been here for years, and nobody took it? Justin asked, looking over at the Lucario sleeping in the corner. He was supposed to choose his first starter, but nothing had truly appealed to him so far. It was only by overhearing staff was he aware that this Pokemon was up for the trainer adoption. Choosing his first Pokemon was a big deal, but this stagnant Pokemon was holding heavy on his heart. The aura Pokemon seemed so dead, so lonely, and Justin was sure staying in this little town wasn't going to help.
The staff member nodded and cast a glance over at the snoozing Pokemon. Yes, as a hatchling, Artemis, that's what we call him, was a bit more aggressive and over-eager than the others. This seemed to be a turn off to the young trainers who wanted cute and adorable Pokemon. For years, Artemis watched the trainers come and go, and soon he evolved on his own. We let him roam the city since it seemed that he wasn't going to find a trainer... The man trailed off, causing Justin to look over at the Pokemon. Hey, Artemis. You're a Lucario, and understand human speech. Open your eyes. He called out, to the man's surprise. The Lucario's eyes flicked open lazily. He didn't seem to be studying Justin very hard. I'm Justin Pryce. I'm a trainer and a photographer. You're coming with me. I'm getting you outta here. Justin concluded.
Artemis's pupils focused in on Justin as it sat up, crossing it's arms as it sat against the wall, fully examining Justin. The man beside him put his hand on his shoulder. Are you sure? He asked, watching the Lucario stand up and brush his fur off with his paws. Positive. Despite his accent, it was clear to tell Justin wasn't leaving without this Pokemon.
---
So now started his journey with the bitter Lucario. He stood alongside Justin as he prepared his camera, looking at the woods with a familiar glint in his eye. Perhaps he was contemplating running? No, Justin wanted to have more faith in him. He did have faith in him, and the aura Pokemon could feel that. Looking forward to our journey? Justin asked, grinning to the dog. He merely closed his eyes before giving a rough bark in agreement. It would take some time to get used to this new person, but perhaps the Aussie wasn't... too bad. Alright, let's go. He purred, stepping onto the route.
Lucario stayed though. It was a matter of two steps before Justin couldn't hear the paws behind him. Artemis looked down at the greener grass and then back up at Justin. He could almost see the wheels turning in the Pokemon's head. To save time, Justin extended his hand to Artemis. You've never been here. I know you're scared, but you've got me with ya. Let's do this, bud. I chose ya for a reason, and it's not to keep you here. That's for damn sure.
Artemis took hold and their adventure began.

Not to far off, maybe a couple of yards away from the pokemon and trainer duo, a curious pair of eyes peered out of tall grass. There was a glint of yellow as the sun reflected off the pupils that intently studied the boy and his dog pokemon. Whatever it was it took a step closer to get a better look. However, a clumsy paw ended up snapping a twig. The creature instantly stiffened and frozen, knowing that it had been loud enough to attract attention. Briefly it stayed put, debating with itself on whether to run or stay put and hoped they passed. The sudden rustling behind it caused it to jump with a started cry out into the open. "SHINX!" It cried out in fear, realizing that something had creeped up on him and that his cover had been blown. It didn't hesitate in bolting toward the treeline at top speed to find a new hiding place. A loud, vicious sounding bark traveled after it from the tall grass. Out stepped a angered Poochyena, sleek black in color with a noticeable scar over it's shoulder standing out amongst ruffled fur. It suddenly noticed the two, but instead of fleeing stood its ground with hackles raised high and teethed bared in a intimidating snarl. It barked loudly at the two as it stalked towards the direction the Shinx had fled toward. The dog pokemon was intent on sniffing out his prey, but it watched the others carefully as it was ready to fight to keep the prey away from other hunters. The creature howled defiantly in a challenge. Wild Poochyena appeared!Tackle | Sand Attack | Howl | Bite Gender: Male Level: 8 HP: 40/40 Wild Poochyena used Howl! (Poochyena's Attack Rises)

((RESCUE MISSION! WOOOO!))
Justin and Artemis had been travelling along the path for a bit, Justin unaware he was being watched. Artemis was aware there were Pokemon all around, but he wouldn't point them out to his trainer unless something was awry or if his trainer wanted one. The Shinx was silent as it watched the pair pass the path, and Artemis shot a look it's way when the twig snapped, seeing a bit of it through the brush. However, Artemis did nothing. That is, until the yowl came.
Whoah, what? Justin looked about, scanning to see what had happened. All he saw was a Shinx run across the path and jump towards the other side of the path's underbrush, followed by a dog Pokemon. Poochyena, apparently. It's fur around the shoulder was gnarled, revealing a scar. Artemis put his fists up when the Poochyena howled, but watched it as it stalked after the Shinx.
Justin snorted, speeding up his walk to a run. No, that ain't gonna fly. Artemis, let's take this dog down. He called out, pointing to the Poochyena. His partner gave a bark with a growl.
Artemis - Level 11 - Inner Focus (Prevents Flinching) Aura Sphere - Swords Dance - Dark Pulse - Extremespeed - Dragon Pulse - Force Palm
Hey dog! Stop it right there and face us, or are you too chicken? he asked, Artemis jumping onto the path. The aura around Lucario grew, typical of the Aura sensing Pokemon. Artemis wouldn't falter, even though this was his first battle with his new trainer. He'd been waiting too long for this chance, this opportunity, this.. new life. He wasn't going to let it slip away just because of a cocky dog with a scar or two. Artemis would be happy giving him another.
Dark Pokemon are weak to fighting, so you better watch out! Artemis, use your Aura Sphere! Justin called.. Artemis nodded his head and charged forward, the blue-white light forming between his paws, ready to let loose on the Poochyena. Justin watched, scanning around for the Shinx. Don't worry, cat, we're takin' 'em down. You'll be safe! He called out, unsure if the lion cub could hear him or not. Didn't matter, the battle was already started, especially since Justin was deserved. [/blockquote]

The Poochyena didn't know what to expect at first. Would the two interfere or just leave him be. The dark pokemon soon got his answer when the trainer called him out. The pokemon didn't quite understand the language, but he didn't realize he was being taunted. It infuriated him. Not bothering to think out a battle plan in its haste, it charged impatiently at the larger dog pokemon. The Poochyena wanted to end this battle quickly as it still had a prey to hunt. If these two wanted to fight then he'd oblige wholeheartedly. It wasn't aware that the Lucario had a type advantage, but even if he did it might not have even made a difference. With a powerful thrust the pokemon hurled a glowing ball at him. His eyes could only widen. However, there was no turning back now. He just had to bare it. So the dark pokemon narrowed his eyes and met the attack with a tackle, hoping the break free. A small explosion rattled the area, throwing up smoke and debris. The dog staggered out, glaring at the two much worse for wear in comparison to mere moments ago. A low guttural rumble escaped its throat again and it took a shaky step forward. The pokemon was determined to get in one attack. To lose like this, to go down in one attack from this pokemon. Was it that much more powerful than him? It was unacceptable! But in the end, he collapsed weakly. Tackle | Sand Attack | Howl | Bite Gender: Male Level: 8 HP: 0/40 Wild Poochyena used fainted! (It is still available for capture!)

Artemis - Level 12 - Inner Focus (Prevents Flinching) Aura Sphere - Swords Dance - Dark Pulse - Extremespeed - Dragon Pulse - Force Palm
Now follow up with an Extremespeed! Justin called, but then realized... The tense Lucario turned and dropped his fists.
Justin knew the battle would be over before it truly started. Artemis was powerful compared to the Poochyena, and nothing was going to change that. Despite such, the Poochyena would fight. And the inevitable ending was, Justin and Artemis would come out successful. However, one more matter stood in the way of Justin. The Shinx was in the brush to the side, probably long gone by now, and the Poochyena was fainted in the path. Would he capture it?
His gaze wandered to the scar that gnarled about it's shoulder. It was a fighter, that was obvious, but was it a fighter for a specific reason? What if it was stalking the Shinx for food? Despite it's aggression, he wanted to help the dog. Even if it hadn't challenged them, Justin probably would have sought out to capture it. Deciding, Justin dug in the side pocket of his camera case and pulled out a small Pokeball. It expanded when he pressed the middle button, and was now full in his hand.
Stand by, Artemis. Technically we're still in battle. He said, but it was just for the cordial part of battle. He rolled the ball to tap the Poocheyna, and watched as it sucked into the ball. He then stepped over it, allowing it to take it's course. If it didn't capture, he'd just move it off the path for safety and not change anything else. He then called out to the Shinx. Heya, you're safe now. We took care of the dog for ya. He grinned, fistbumping Justin who opened his fingers to not get impaled.

((Note: I'm pretty sure that the pokemon gains a level in the post after it performs fights, not during or before as it has to actually be fighting to gain experience in the rules. In, other words, it enters battle at its starting level then gains, if I'm understanding correctly. So Lucario is currently lvl 11 and will enter the next battle at that level then gain a level after every battle post after which stops when the pokemon faints.)) The pokeball rolled around a bit, the pokemon inside protesting vehemently. However, it as all just show. It didn't have the strength to resist the capture. Soon the resounding click of the ball sealing resounded through the air. It found itself cheering on both sides, simply engrossed by the battle itself. They had been so strong! Even the Poochyena, outmatched completely, had stood tall and taken an attack that would have decimated most with unyielding determination. The Shinx, so engrossed, hadn't even moved after the battle ended. Instead it only sat in silence as the pokemon wriggled around. Finally, the click from the ball stirred the Shinx back to its senses. Now was the time for escape while they were distracted. However, before it could make a get away the human's voice called out to it. The creature stayed completely still. They still knew he was here! Breath coming out fast in panic it struggled to think of a plan to get away. What usually worked with other larger and scary pokemon? Act tough, think tough, be tough! It could do this! It wasn't a little scaredy-cat! It stepped out nervously and made a show of growling. He could be intimidating like them if he need to. Artemis - Level 12 - Inner Focus (Prevents Flinching) HP: 50/50 Atk -1 (STAB will make up for it) Aura Sphere - Swords Dance - Dark Pulse - Extremespeed - Dragon Pulse - Force Palm
The pokeball rocked back and forth a few times while Justin watched it, anticipating capture. After all, the poor pup was exhausted, right? It was completely fainted so he figured there wouldn't be much of a struggle. The pokeball gave it's final shake before the light in the center faded, and a tiny sound emitted. Artemis looked over as Justin knelt down to pick up the capsule with his newest team member inside. He wanted to celebrate, but he knew he truly didn't do anything. Good job, Artemis. He patted the dog's back, being careful not to hit any spikes.
Another sound reached the dog's ears though, and it was in the form of a little growl. Although it was small, his courage seemed to give Artemis a bit of a chill, but nothing he couldn't handle in battle. The dog quickly jumped in front of his trainer at the approach of the young feline. Despite his gender, Justin couldn't help but let his heart melt. The feline was adorable, even if it did want to fight them. As much as he didn't want to fight it, he wanted to capture it, which meant one thing: Sorry Artemis, but we're up. I wanna catch 'em, but we might have to faint 'em for that.. He practically whimpered.
Artemis understood though, and put up his fists, prepared for anything the Shinx did. However, it merely charged up energy. A bold move, but Artemis wondered if the young feline could even produce electricity yet. It wasn't a worry, though. Ummmm... use your... Aura Sphere. You'll get some extra strength. Maybe after this we can go heal these guys up and train a bit. You're pretty strong. He smiled, patting the dog's shoulder before jumping back to allow him to fight.
The same glow appeared between the Pokemon's paws, forming into a neat sphere of raw power. The Shinx would hopefully be knocked out in one hit, as to not drag this out for longer than need be. Artemis released the sphere, and the beam of power zoomed towards the Shinx. Justin waited in anticipation for what would happen next. Lucario jumped back to his trainer's side, awaiting the outcome with curiosity as well. If it survived, Artemis would jump back to accept any damage the Shinx might inflict with it's next attack.

"Just leave. Just leave." The shinx repeated to itself. It was a wonder the creature's legs were not shaking beneath it. He seen very clearly just how these two had took down the Poochyena that had him outmatched moments before. And they did it so effortlessly as well. "Please just leave," he begged in his thoughts. All he could do was whimper when they turned their sights to him and didn't budge. The shinx actually wanted to cry when the dog pokemon started charging up the same attack that had felled the Poochyena in one shot. He knew that he should move, but despite how his mind screamed his body didn't listen. He could only watch with wide eyes as the creature hurled the attack at him. As soon as it left the creature's hand it was already upon him. The Shinx could only cry out in pain as the explosion engulfed him. Unable to hold up against the attack he blacked out as his body was thrown across the clearing. The creature hit a tree, which stopped its flight, then fell to the ground in a lifeless heap. The side of its body was burn terribly and small cuts from debris littered his small body. It was breathing shallowly, still alive, but for how much longer wasn't easy to determine. One could be sure that it would die without any healing or the stasis a pokeball provided. The battle was progressing smoothly, although Justin had a sinking feeling in his stomach as Artemis neared closer to the Shinx. Before he could say anything against the attack, it had been done. The impact sent the feline flying into a tree, and he could smell the scent of burnt hair. Instead of staying, Artemis dashed forward to the side of the Shinx, horrified at the damage he'd done. Justin stood, dumbfounded, until Artemis's bark brought him back to reality.
Shit!
He ran forward, pokeball in hand. He kneeled at the side of the Pokemon, hand brushing in it's burnt fur. That would heal up with a bath, but the breathing was shallow. Something was definitely wrong, and Justin needed to heal it up quick. In a quick motion, Justin tapped it with a Pokeball, ignoring the wait time. C'mon, Artemis. He commanded, running back towards the Pokemon center to heal up his Pokemon, especially Shinx. This wasn't like the battle with Poochyena, nothing like it. The photographer felt ashamed. He was going to catch the Pokemon, but the guilt was eating at him with every footstep as he ran into the doors.
