There was something about the boy's constant laughing that made her wonder if he was trying to make fun of her. Or, well, whatever the people of Lyra's generation called it. She didn't actually think that he was mocking her - she didn't know the meaning of the word - but she was beginning to feel more and more offended with each giggle that escaped his mouth. It wasn't her fault, however. She was just making simple remarks and asking question when she was confused... which happened quite frequently, if she did say so herself.
As previously stated, body language and subtext completely flew by her head, which meant that she typically took every little thing spoken to her literally. This also meant that the fine line between the light hearted laughing and the cruel, mocking laughs was no where near as black and white as it would have been if someone else was recieving these different types of chuckles. She would never be able to tell when someone was laughing along with her, or laughing at her and usually left it up to guessing. Gold seemed pretty nice - he hadn't spit at her, shrugged her off, or anything that night - but there had been a few other times where she believed someone was nice. Maybe once or twice. Both times, they'd either stolen her money or left her feeling utterly abandoned.
The brunette attempted to tell herself that he was just laughing because she'd said her words in a funny way or thought she was making a joke. Something of the sort. Anything would do. She refused to believe that such a kind person like him would want to be so cruel to her and torture her in a way that she would be unable to comprehend. Again - this would not be the first time that she was used due to her stupidity and inability to understand fifty percent of the words coming out of another's mouth. And, yet, there was always the slight feeling of betrayal each time she heard a laugh that made her wonder if she truly was being mocked in such a manner.
Of course, this was all a little to much for her to take in at once. Instead of dwelling on whether or not he was poking fun at her in a cruel way, she instead decided to focus on everything else that had spilled from his mouth directly after his chuckle at her comment. "Nah, you don't actually need a key to build the tent," he explained to her, in wish she simply nodded in a dumb fashion. She'd never build a tent before, so how was she supposed to know the basics of setting one up for sleeping in? "Ya' see... Well It's..." The words were obviously having difficulties leaving the golden-eyed teen's mouth and she herself giggled a bit. However, it was tiny and barely audible. She didn't not want to make him think that she was making fun of him. As if that were even possible.
"It's just a figure of speech, I guess. There's a zipper on the tent, but not a lock or anything. Do you get it?" Yeah, she had no idea what he was talking about. So, throwing him the widest, cheesiest grin she possibly could, she responded with an overly happy, "Nope~!" However, she did understand the zipper part. Well... almost. "If they've gots a ziper, does that mean ya' wear 'em? Ya' know, like your jacket an' stuff?" With a tiny squeal, she skipped over to where he stood and partially unzipped and rezipped his jacket zipper repeatedly. "Like this?" she asked before turning and skipping back to her spot on the log.
It was at this time that Lyra watched as Gold attempted to set up the tent. Well, "setting up" wasn't the correct phrase. More like set up a few poles, knock them over numerous times and trip even moreso. The pig-tailed child smiled at him And threw a periodic giggle his way. It was quite entertaining to watch him struggle and flail with such an easy task, aftre all, and if appeared to her that he was putting on a show of her on purpose - even if he really wasn't. Of course, what on Earth would she know about setting up tents? Her mind was still dead set on tents being someonthing that one would wear, not something to sleep under at night.
Finally, the teen gave up in a very comical manner. Comical in the fact that, when trying to kick over what he had set up, he ended up tripping and landing face first into the mud and dirt below them. The girl still beleived that this was part of some show and laughed a little more, only to watch as he rose, sighed and walked over to her. "I think I should set up the tent later," he explained with a slightly awkward laugh. Completely missing at fact, the girl nodded her head happily, pig-tails copying her motions in a very springy fashion. They always did this. Maybe it was something about how unaturally curly they were, twisting into a cresent moon sort of shape.
Her brown eyes followed his frame as he walked over to his pack. Looking at her, the boy rolled her a bottle of water, saying, "You look thirsty. Drink all the water you want! I've got lots more." Beaming at him with an all to large grin, the brunette asked stupidly, "Really? I can have it? Thanks, Goldylocks! You're super dooper nice!" After struggling to open the cap at the top of the bottle for a good five minutes, she eventually managed to break it open. Setting the entrance at her lips, she swiftly drank from it, chugging down half the bottle in nearly one gulp. Letting out a contant ah, she almost went for another... when she saw the matches in his hand.
Stiffening visably, the girl's widenned eyes followed them as Gold manuevered to the pile of sticks he'd accumilated not long and attempted to light them. Happy she wasn't right up next to where the fire would be started, she gently placed the bottle down on the log and continued watching as he managed to successfully set the branches ablaze. Once his business was done, she relaxed slightly and watched as he sat back down. By that time the sun was setting - oh, wasn't it night time already? She had lost track of the time somewhere during those hours... - and the world around them was plunging into darkness. "I guess it's starting to get dark now..." The raven-haired child beside her had no need to vocalize this fact, as she'd already noticed it, but was glad he had. She was afraid of the dark. She didn't want to admit to such a thing herself.
"... Goldylocks...?" she muttered quietly, scooting closer to the male with eyes darting every which way in search of a Pokemon that might want to do them more harm than any good. "W-where are we gonna sleep? Are we gonna stay up all night, or somethin'? 'Cause I don't wanna sleep out in the dark..."

"Memories mend me" 'N one's seen my share.' "Things I can't repair" I'll break it to you.
It was apparent once the sun had set that the brunette next to him was beginning to be afraid. Gold wasn't sure whether it was the forest, the dark, the sounds, or a mixture of all three, but Lyra seemed more child-like. She looked like a little kid that had just woken up from a nightmare, and that upset him. Sure, he didn't blame her for being scared. Even he, to his disbelief, was starting to get a little creeped out as well. It scared him to think that there might be something out there that he couldn't protect himself from, let alone Lyra or their Pokemon. Truthfully, he had always been a little scared by every forest he'd come across. It's one thing to pass through a forest in the middle of the day. In the daytime, the forests were full of Pokemon happily enjoying themselves in the sunlight and flowers and whatnot. However, at night all the happy little Pokemon went to bed, leaving the nocturnal Pokemon to go about their business. The problem with the nighttime Pokemon was that they were all pretty much creepy. One moment you're walking along minding your own business, and the next thing you know you're surrounded by a whole group of Gastly. Talk about creepy. The last thing that Gold wanted to come in contact with was a Gastly or two that would scare the pants off of him and his female companion. Even though he knew that Aitaro could easily chase any Pokemon off, the thought still popped up in his mind. The brunette scooted closer to him as the sun finally went down below the horizon, quietly muttering his new nickname of "Goldylocks" that she had created. He had already gotten used to the new nickname. How long had it been since someone had last gave him a nickname? The girl's eyes began to dart from side to side, as though she thought that someone -or something- was going to pop out of the trees and snatch them both up. The golden-eyed boy had to try hard to keep himself from snorting crossly. He would protect her as long as he was around! At Lyra's questions about whether they would have to sleep in the dark without any cover, Gold jumped up once again, his eyes determined. "I'll set up the tent for sure this time!" He yelled, charging over to the pieces of the tent that laid scattered on the forest floor. He quickly began to try and set them up, his back turned to Lyra. "This stupid thing'll be a tent soon! Then we can sleep all we want and not have to worry about the dark and stuff." He grumbled, hoping that the girl was okay while he was across the clearing. She had the fire next to her, so she shouldn't be too afraid of the dark. Right?

It was starting to become official that forest's weren't Lyra's favorite thing in the world. This, in itself, was really saying something about how terrible her experience of the day was, because, really, she really didn't hate all to many things in the world. Sure, there were some things that bothered her in just the slightest - like people popping bubbles with their gum or scratching your fingers against a chalk board? Oh, she just couldn't stand those kinds of things - and some things that she'd rather avoid, but she could never really bring herself to hate anything. But, if she ever came close to actually hating something, it would be the type of scenery she was in at that moment. Not one was she lost, but she was lost in a place where there were rumors of a monster running about. That, and the sun had bid their section of the planet farewell, gifting light - and daytime - to regions on the opposite side of the world, leaving them is utter darkness, save for their campfire and the moon and stars above. She'd witnessed Pokemon being burned alive in this very place - dieing right before her very eyes - not long before this. Of course she wasn't it's biggest tent.
Gold - her newest hero and friend - was the only thing, really, that stood between her and being kindapped by rouge Pokemon or tripping and hitting her head on a rock... or something of the sort, anyway. She was just about to wrap her arms around his own, cling to him like her life depended on it, when he jumped to his feet, away from her, in response to her question. In just moments, he was over at the collapsed remains of their pathetic excuse for a tent, shouting at the top of his lungs, "I'll set up the tent for sure, this time!" A certein sense of determination wafted off of the boy and, though the brunette was honestly terrified at the prospect of being left all by her lonesome on the log, she couldn't help but admire his ability to stay so peppy. With a weak smile, she cheered from where she sat, "Y-ya' can do it, Goldylocks! I believe in ya'!" He continued, "This stupid thing'll be a tent doo! then, we can sleep all we want and not have to worry about the dark and stuff."
A smile tugged on the corners of Lyra's mouth and, for a short moment, she was honestly beaming at him as he prepared to defeat the beast known as that tent. Of course, when she remembered that, while he was preoccupied with that, she would be stranded by the fire, she began to worry again. There was no way she would be able to muster the courage to ask if she could assist in helping set it up. Not only was she afraid to step away from the light of the flame, but she had no idea how tents even worked, much less how to set one up. Truly, she'd only get in his way, possibly earning herself a cold stare from the boy. So, instead, the twin-tailed child stayed where she was, curled in on herself and wondering what she could do to pass the time. Oh! That was it! Sing! There were lots of campfire songs that she knew, really, and she loved singing. What better way to cope with the darkness around her than that? Without hesitation, she let to words, paired with off key music, ring from the back of her throat.
"Let's gather by the campfire as we sing our campfire song~!" The words were shakey, clearly defining her uneasiness. Oh, how she wished she could cling to Gold and not let go until she knew it was perfectly safe. Would Harmony be able to save her from the horrifying monsters of the night? "Our C-A-M-P-F-I-R-E S-O-N-G song~! And if you don't think that we can sing it faster then you're wrong! But it'll help if you just sing along...!" Her voice began to trail and the rest of the song came out in a muffled blur as her chocolate brown eyes caught sight and watched the bushes rustle not far away. She stopped her singing abruptly - screaming, instead - as a small figure darted out from the undergrowth. Just a Spinarak, really. However, she was still cowering in fear. What if it grew into a hideous beast and proceeded to eat her alive or something? "I-It's... It's gonna eat me!" she wailed, putting her hands over her head and nearly rolling off the log beneath her.
