"Memories mend me" 'N one's seen my share.' "Things I can't repair" I'll break it to you.
A lonely figure made it's way through the dark, quiet forest, stumbling over plants and cursing under it's breath. Seeing a light, the figure's gold eyes lit up excitedly underneath his dirt-covered face, and he ran towards the light only to see it was just his eyes playing tricks on him again. Gold frowned, pushing his hair out of his face. Saying that Gold never got lost was like saying that Mankey could fly. It just made people laugh at the thought. The raven-haired boy often got himself lost by getting distracted, and today was no exception. Having come to the Lyeant region to escape all the troublesome drama that his home held, the boy hadn't even gotten far before he was lost. Pulling a small fold able map out of his pocket, Gold wiped some mud off of his face and frowned. "Great, just great. I've only just gotten to this region and here I am, lost as usual!" He grumbled, pushing branches out of his way, only for them to swing back and hit him upside the head. He growled at the tree and pushed away one of the branches and ran, only to stumble over a roaming Spinarak and fall face-first in a puddle of mud. The bug Pokemon skittered away, fuming, and Gold jumped up and watched it climb up a tree and glare at him. "Sorry Spinarak!" He called, but the Pokemon ignored him and hid in the branches of the tree. The boy sighed and reached into his coat pocket, pulling out a Pokeball. He smiled at the ball and threw it up into the air, watching a red stream come out of it. "Come on out, buddy!" He called, and watched as his trusty Ambipom, Aitaro, landed on the ground. Aitaro was the only Pokemon Gold had left since he left Johto, as he really didn't bother bringing any others. After all, he wanted to start anew in this region. It was fun to think of all of the new Pokemon he would meet and catch. Gold smiled at Aitaro. "C'mon. Help me get out of this stupid forest?" He said, and the Ambipom let out a happy cry before following the black-haired boy, and Gold wished in the back of his head that he would come across someone who actually knew their way around the forest.

Okay, so, maybe strolling through a dense forest in the dead of the night was a stupid idea. Not that the fact that a wicked monster who ate little children like one particular female who strayed there helped much in the long run. Okay, so, maybe she hadn't exactly thought this through. She had been, after all, wandering aimlessly throughout the region, stopping at any and every stop along the way. She was supposed to be in Vardent Town, resting peacefully in the town's Pokemon Center and dreaming of what was in store for the next day. Somewhere along the way, though, she made a wrong turn and was now lost as she could be in a forest.
Oh, Lyra wasn't liking this one bit.
"Harmony..." The brunette's voice was tiny and fragile, wavering like the branches in the late night wind. There was no denying the tremblings in her hand and the clattering of her teeth ever so gently against one another. And, to be entirely honestly, very little of that was caused by the slight chill in the air. One would be frightened as well, trekking through the dark woods when you neever knew what - or, rather, whom - was out there. "Harmony, do you know where we are?" Of course the creature didn't know where they were. They'd been running in circles for hours, after all. And she wasn't one of those Pokemon with extra sensative noses that would be able to help smell their way out. Besides - she was to afraid to do anything of the sort, anyway.
It was then that a growl was heard.
The Marill jumped with a started, clinging to it's trainer's leg with eyes darting to and fro. Her master just laughed at the Pokemon's strange behavior, it being so dreadfully terrified of the noise both had heard. She was usually very irritable and strong willed - never as jumpy or nervous as this. The girl was still amused to the point of laughing aloud despite the fact that there was a chance she'd never make it out of the forest alive. Of course, she was always easy to entertain and could laugh at anything she very well felt like, even in times like these where she was in danger. So, while the blue squere clung to to human with all her might, all said human could do was giggle and giggle away.
"Harmony, you're funny, ya' know that?"
A glare was given in responce.
"Somethin' wrong? You look like you've got a tummy ache, or somethin'. That's no good," she stated with a pout, her all to childish mind trying to grasp what had startled the shorter of the two... and failing. She'd heard the growling noise herself, but her stomach always made that noise when she was hungry. She never even bothered to think that her empty belly was the cause of her Pokemon's distress. Instead, she plucked the Pokemon right of the ground and carried her in her arms. "Ya' know what, Harmony? I think we're gonna get outta this place real fast." Harmony raised an eyebrow in inquisition, wondering what on Earth made the girl think that. Surely she didn't know the way out by seeing some familiar landmark, right?
And, worse, she hadn't known the way out this entire time and had hid that information just to fool her partner into thinking they were lost, had she?
... No.
Lyra was to dense to come up with an alabrit a plan as that.
"See, if ya' keep walkin' forward," the brunette began, using the best impression of a wise old man she could muster, "then you're gonna find an exit, right? This forest can't go on forever!" She had a point there, one had to admit, but that could have taken the two hours. Plus, her next statement didn't help lighten the mood much, either. A gasp escaped the female trainer's mouth, causing her Pokemon to jump again and scurry away. "Harmony! I just realized something! What if this forest doesn't end!" Tears began to form in the corner of her eyes, and suddenly she wailed, "We're gonna be stuck in here forever!"
The squere-shaped Pocket Monster frantically tried to cheer up her trainer, doing everything in her power to get the girl to stop crying. If the rumors were true and there really was a giant man-eating monster in the forest, surely all this noise would catch his attention. The two would be a great beast's dinner, and that did not make a great ending for a not so great story. Things seemed hopeless, however, until a noise caught the Pokemon's attention. Muffled and quiet as it was, it still managed to make it's way to her ear drums. She couldn't make out what was said, but it certainly didn't sound like any Pokemon. "Come on out, buddy!" The blue-colored creature stiffened out the sound of the voice, only to realize that help may not have been very far away. When the words, "C'mon. Help me get out of this stupid forest?" came, confirming the presense of another human in the area, the Pokemon dashed off into the bushes and towards the voice.
This, of course, also disturbed the still crying Lyra.
"Eh? Harmony? Harmony, somethin' wrong? Why're ya' runnin' away like that?" No answer. "Harmony? Ya' hear me? Where're ya' goin' by yourself?" The girl began to panic and raced after her swift friend. When the Marill came screeching to a hault, so did she. "Harmony, what'd I tell ya' 'bout runnin' away like that? It's - ah! Monster!"
Sure enough, silouetted by the light of the moon, the figure of a lone boy, mud smeared across his face made what would have been a normal person look like that of a horrifying beast. Doing the first thing she thought she could do to protect her Pokemon and herself from "the monster of the forest", she picked up a branch and threw it in the general direction of the figure in hopes that it would hit it and scare it away.
"Go away, scary monster! I don't taste good, anyway!"

"Memories mend me" 'N one's seen my share.' "Things I can't repair" I'll break it to you.
Gold had been trying to make his way through a large patch of weeds when he began to hear voices other than his own and Aitaro's, and his hopes rose real high. The voice sounded feminine, and a little scared, but perhaps this person knew how to get out of the dreaded forest. Suddenly something began to dart through the forest towards him, and his golden eyes went wide in fright. Was something after him? He took a couple steps back to only realize that it was just a small Pokemon, a Marill to be exact. The small blue mouse Pokemon launched itself at him, clinging to his leg as if something was after it. Gold got into a battle stance and Aitaro jumped up in front of him, his face determined, but the two relaxed when a girl came through the foliage, looking scared but nonetheless okay. Her chocolate-brown hair was pulled back in pig-tails, and she looked innocent-looking. A blush rose on his cheeks as the girl stared blankly at him, but he yelled and flinched when she screamed and threw a tree branch at him. Aitaro caught the branch with one of his long tails, and Gold smiled wide at his Pokemon friend. The boy took a couple steps forward towards the girl, putting his hands up in a submissive gesture. "Geez, take it easy!" He laughed shakily, a small scared smile on his face. "I'm not gonna hurt ya, I promise! I'm just a normal kid like you, see?" He said, and turned around in a circle to show her he wasn't a "scary monster" like she thought he was. Grabbing a tissue out of his pocket, he wiped at his face to get rid of at least some of the mud, managing a large reassuring smile. "Are you lost too? 'Cause I sure could use some help getting out of here." Gold admitted, and shook his head as some water fell onto his hair. His eyes looked worried still, but he knew if the girl went crazy Aitaro could always help restrain her.

Let this be a lesson to you all - don't go around throwing sticks at random people's heads. That will be all. Sure, it had all been in self defense, throwing something in the direction of the figure's head, but that didn't quite justify her actions. What if it actually hit the person in the head. If the branch had been sharp enough, it could have possibly give them a cut. In the very least, it would knock them over... and then what? What if they fell over and hit their head on a rock, or something? Someone could have a concussion and it'd be all the girl's fault. So, again. Let this be a lesson to you all. Don't throw sticks at people. Don't cut people's heads. Don't knock them down and give them concussions.
Well, maybe the girl had wanted the figure to be hit in the head. After all, if it really had been the monster of the forest, giving it a concussion surely would be the solution to all her problems. Then, she could going around, exclaiming how she'd single handedly defeated the wicked "monster of the forest". It the stick missed or hit something else in its path, however, things could end up being disasterous. And she'd never know she missed guessing as, at that particular moment, she was curled up into a ball, eyes squeeze shut tight and hands grasping her head to protect herself. Oh, this was typical. Mistaking every person for someone trying to attack her and assuming this position in a futile attempt to save herself.
But that wasn't the point.
After the branch had been thrown at the mysterious figure, a yell was heard. Harmony looked at her master with a look that asked, "seriously?" when the girl cowered even more, thinking this was the cry of some evil monster. She never saw him flinch, missed the part when the other trainer's Pokemon companion reached out and caught the projectile, and never saw the submissive raise of his hands in the air. All she cared about was staying absolutely still. 'Maybe, if I pretend ta' be a rock, that monster'll go away...' she told herself in silence, trying her hardest to ignore the violent shivering that shook her fragile frame.
And then... a voice.
"Geez, take it easy!" A laugh hit her ear drums. Shakey as it was, it was still a laugh. The laugh of a horrific monster about to eat her, perhaps? To be entirely honest, she didn't think it sounded all that much like such a man eating beast. But, still, it could have been a trap. How else would it lure in little children before eating them alive? None the less, her "act like a rock" plan wasn't exactly working as well as she wanted it to, and she'd have to come up with something else. Rolling over onto her back and comically sticking her tongue into the air and then out the side of her mouth, she literally played dead. The "monster" continued to talk. "I'm not gonna hurt ya', I promise! I'm just a normal kid like you, see?" The sound of rustling leaves told that the "monster" was moving and, from what it sounded like, presumably in the shape of a circle. But she didn't dare open her eyes.
"Go away, scary monster! We don't want you here!" she wailed, squeezing her eyes tight once more and giving up her playing dead act. This was not getting her anywhere fast. The voice didn't sound like a monster. It sounded like a normal boy about her age, which was exactly what he had said. But who knew? It could easily have been a monster using the voice of someone it had eaten a while back, trying to get her to calm down so it could eat her. Calm people always did taste better then those who were in a panic... right? "I'm not gonna fall for your tricks, ya' big meany!"
However, curiosity got the better of her, and she found herself peeling her eyes open in just the slightest. At first, the figure's face was blocked by a thin white clothe and she yowled, "Ah! Worse! Tissue faced monster!" When the tissue was removed from the "monster's" face, though, she realized that it really wasn't a monster. With a lot less mud plastered to the boy's face, he looked... normal. Happy, lost, dirty, but... normal. So, in typical Lyra fashion, the pig-tailed female took this moment to completely ruin the mood. "Oh, hey, there! Where'd you come from? There was just this scary, chompy chomp monster here with - can you believe it? - a tissue for a face. It was super dooper scary!"
The Marill in their presence smacked her hand to her forehead.
"Are you lost, too?" the raven-haired boy asked with the same voice as the monster that had been torturing her just moments before. Could it be...? No, such a kind, golden-eyed teen as this couldn't have been a giant beast who had been trying to eat her just moments before. She brushed the thought away with a goofy looking grin. "'Cause I could sure use some help getting out of here."
"Nah, I don't know how ta' get outta here. If I did, I wouldn't be here, right? I lost my map when I was walkin' through the forest. It blew right outta my hands like... like... whoosh!" She made a large gesture with her hands as she said this, hanging her hands low, then throwing them into the air with a big, circular motion. "You don't gotta map, too, do ya'? I'm not good at readin' 'em, anyway, but they're fun ta' look at." The brunette stared at him with her typical spacey look, when something hit her.
This boy... This boy looked familiar.
Harmony must have noticed this, too, by the way she clung the the boy's leg almost as though she knew him from somewhere before. Of course, the girl couldn't quite put her finger on who he was or why he looked so achingly similar to someone from her past. "Um..." she stared, her smile fading as she looked him over with a contemplating look, "Do I know ya'? 'Cause ya' look sorta familiar..."

"Memories mend me" 'N one's seen my share.' "Things I can't repair" I'll break it to you.
Gold managed a laugh when the girl finally noticed he was a human and not the "monster" she had been thinking of. He had heard rumors of a "child-eating" monster on the loose in the forest, but he knew that it was probably just a bunch of folklore used to keep children out of the forest at night. He tried to hold in a sigh of disappointment when the pig-tailed girl told him that she also had no idea where she was at, and he chuckled when she told him the story of the map flying out of her hands. Pulling the map out of his pocket once more, the raven-haired boy handed the map towards his newly found companion. "I have a map, but I have no idea which direction I'm headin'. Even if we don't know how to read it, maybe it'll help us in some way." He said with a shrug, and turned to Aitaro to pat him on the head. When he looked back at the brunette, her smile had faded and was replaced with a look of confusion. When she asked him if she knew him, Gold crossed his arms and dug into his memories. He was usually bad at remembering names, but he knew for a fact that he wouldn't forget someone like this girl. She stood out from all the other girls he had met before, and knew he wouldn't have forgotten her face. Coming back to reality, he looked at the girl and shook his head. "Can't say I know ya. I think I would have remembered if we had met before." He said with a grin, then looked at the girl's Pokemon. "Your Marill's really cute." Gold said, then smiled wide. "By the way, what's your name? I'm Gold, and this is Aitaro." He said, gesturing towards his Ambipom. He was curious as to what this girl's name was, even if he had never met her before.

The fact that this boy was so achingly familiar was beginning to bother her. A lot. Lyra had never had the best memory, even when she lived in Johto, so matching faces with names was never one of her specialties. Usually, she'd come across people she knew and have completely forgotten who they were, which lead to very awkward conversations. Well, awkward on the other person's behalf. The seven-lettered word that began with an "a" wasn't even part of her vocabulary. But this boy... Why was he so familiar? It was rare that she remember a face at all, and, now that she thought she might have known him, it was beginning to eat her alive.
Well, sort of.
The male - she still wasn't entirely aware of what his name was - only laughed at her remark about the monster with a tissue for a face. She didn't typically get flustered or upset about what other people said, but she also didn't remember faces all that well. This was a night of firsts for her, wasn't it? That aside, her cheeks flushed, turning a bright shade of read and she pouted like a five-year-old. She demanded like a child who had just been called "stupid", "I'm tellin' the truth! There was a big, scary monster and it just went poof when ya' got here! Maybe you've gots some special super powers! Ya' know, that'll make the scary monsters go away!" She visably brightened at the idea that she may have been witnessing a super hero in the making with the ability to keep away feral beasts.
Her feet carried her closer, right to his side. Her arms reached out in a path that could only lead to her wrapping her arms around his waist and trying to pull him in close. "You've gots to tell me! How come you've got super powers and I don't?" Her attention span of a Pacharisu kicked in once more as the girl found her mind dragging itself away from his possibly super powers. However, had she successfully captured the raven-haired male in her grasp, her hands were not removed from his waist. She watched intently as he fetched a map and handed it to her. She didn't take it, however. He was to busy hugging him.
"I have a map," he stated, though it wasn't particularly necessary, guessing as he was holding it right in front of her, "but I have no idea which direction I'm headin'." Well, that certainly made two of them. But it didn't mater. As long as she had some company with her, being lost wasn't so bad. "Even though I don't know how to read it, maybe it'll help us in some way." The fact that one of the two was struggling to understand the various lines and symbols the paper had to offer was bad enough, but the fact he was going to try and see of the moronic girl could understand any of what it said was just pathetic. Yeah, they'd be camping out in the forest that night, that much was certain. "Well, I could try an' read it, but I don't think I'd be able ta'," she said, releasing one arm from around him and taking the map.
For a moment, she looked contemplating once again, looking over the map like she understood every detail. Then, with a sudden burst of excitement, she exlaimed, "I've gots it!" She paused for a dramatic effect only to continue, "Ma' map that flew away... It was the wrong map." Somebody put that Marill out of it's misery. It didn't deserve a trainer as idiotic as the one she'd gotten almost a year in advance. The boy had shrugged at his own remark and was now patting his purple and yellow partner. Harmony never looked so happy to be around her trainer. The pig-tailed girl could only hope to wonder why.
After what seemed like an eternity after her question, the male shook his head when she asked if she knew him. "Can't say I know ya'. I think I would have remembered if we had met before." On normal curcumstances, Lyra wouldn't. The fact that she vaguely remember this golden-eyed trainer's face was quite peculiar in the studies of the girl named Lyra. But that wasn't the point. When he broke eye contact, his gaze rested on the Marill. "Your Marill's really cute," he complimented. The brunette beamed at his words, grinning from ear to ear. "I know, right? I gots her back in Johto. A friend o' mine back home caught... her for me..." The brown-eyed rtainer trailed off, the words unraveling some... unwanted memories.
Oh.
She knew who this boy looked like.
For a moment, her face turned downcast, her smile being replaced by a troubled frown and her eyes looking down at the ground. But that was only for a moment. In the next second, she was back to her typical perky self, banishing the troubling throughts from her mind. "Your monkey's really, really cool lookin'! Think Harmony's gonna be as big an' strong as him?" He was already talking on, though, saying, "By the way, what's your name? I'm Gold and this is Aitaro." Names? Names, names, names... She was never good at remembering them. Sometimes her own slipped her mind. So, for a moment, she stared blankly at him befor smiling again.
"Oh," she said as though coming to an understanding, "names... Erm, I'm Lyra an' this right here is Harmony~! Say hi, Harmony~!" The sphere-shaped creature grunted in responce.

"Memories mend me" 'N one's seen my share.' "Things I can't repair" I'll break it to you.
In response to the brunette's statement about how the monster really was real, and seeing how she got all flustered, Gold simply smiled and kicked at the ground. "I never said I didn't believe you! Must've been some monster." He said, careful to not make fun of her in some way. He had just met this girl, and he didn't want to get on her bad side already. What surprised him the most was that the girl thought he must have some sort of super powers that repelled the monster. Not seeming to be shy or wanting to keep her distance, the girl leaped over to his side and wrapped her arms around his waist, hugging him close. Gold's face flushed in embarrassment, and he let out an awkward laugh, but didn't try to push away from the bright-eyed girl. She reminded him of an extremely happy Pachirisu. "Nah, I-I don't think I've got any super powers or anything. Maybe the monster ran away when you threw that stick at it?" He said, trying not to meet her eyes in case they gave his lie about the stick away. By now, his face was as bright as a really ripe Cheri berry. When the girl grabbed the map out of his hand, Gold watched as her face lit up excitedly. In response to her statement of having the wrong map, Gold's eyes went wide in surprise. He almost asked her if she could read the one he had, but seeing her Marill's face changed his mind. Apparently the Pokemon knew her trainer best, and it was apparent that the map that had flew away before had been the right one. She just didn't know how to read them. When the girl, who was still wrapped around his waist, told him that she had gotten her Marill in Johto, Gold smiled and almost asked about her life there. Almost. Upon recalling that she had gotten her Pokemon in Johto, the girl's mood suddenly dropped down low. She looked like she was about to cry or something, and Gold's eyes narrowed in concern. He wondered if the memories of her life in Johto were really that bad, but didn't ask her about it, and stayed quiet until she suddenly went back to her normal self. Those memories of hers must be painful, if she has to push them back down. He told himself, and smiled when the girl told him how awesome Aitaro was, and then she asked if her Marill would ever get as awesome as his Pokemon was. "Thanks! Me and Aitaro have been traveling together for a long while now." He stated, a grin on his face. "And don't sweat about your Marill. With enough training and love, I'm sure she'll be the most awesome Pokemon in no time!" The raven-haired boy encouraged, and then smiled wide when she told him her name. "Lyra, huh? That's a nice name!" He said, a small blush rising once again on his cheeks. It was still awkward to have her practically plastered to his hip, and he smiled nervously, his golden eyes embarrassed but happy.

Monsters were purely fiction, is she recalled. Figments of an over active mind's imagination. Or, at least, she had always been told as a child. On nights that she would catch her father watching a late night horror movie or when the sound of thunder outside sounded like a particularly large beast stomping around outside her room, her parents would always tell her there was nothing to be afraid of as such things did not truly exist. For years, she grew up knowing this. Whenever horror stories or rumors of ghosts entered her ears, she would reassure herself that everything would be alright as long as that factor came into play. Monster's were purely fiction. Of course, when she blocked out the majority of her memories and tried to become a different person entirely, this was also hidden away in the depths of her mind.
Reguardless, there had always been a part of her that cowered in fear of the dark and of the eerie places that scattered the region of Johto. The part that knew, just knew that grotesque creatures lay just beyond her reach. Waiting... Waiting... Creatures like the one that said to lurk this very forest. And that part of her was not something that could be shoved away like all of the other thoughts she'd put away with lock and key. The idea of a monster with a tissue for a face was, even in her frivolous mind, pathetic and stupid. And, undoubtably, it would not be human sized, the only difference between said race and it the fact that mud caked it's features. However, she would tell herself that she had scared away the monster if only to banish the thoughts that something larger, more terrifying may have been in store for her that night.
She would tell herself that...
"I never said I didn't believe you!" How long had the brunette been off in la-la land? She couldn't be sure. Was this the first thing to some out of her mouth since she began her self induced trance? With any luck, it was. He didn't sound at all annoyed - did he? She was never good at detecting anger, sacrasm, or irritation - she she doubted she'd missed much, if anything at all. "Must have been some monster" he mused allowed. Of course, this made her realize something with a pang. Yeah. Some monster it must have been. "Do ya' think it'll come back?" |
Of course it wouldn't. It was never there to begin with. But she would tell herself that it was, just to make sure she didn't wet herself in the hours to come. "Them monster's are evil, aren't they?"The boy's face turned a bright shade of red when her arms wrapped around him, almost like the red of the jacket he wore. Not that - out of fear, of course - her squeezing him tighter helped in any way at all. A laugh escaped his mouth, though probably due to the awkwardness the whole situation caused. However, much to her surprise and, to be quite honest, delight, he did not shrug her off. "Nah, I-I don't think I've got any super powers or anything," the golden-eyed boy insisted, said eyes breaking any contact with her own. "Maybe the monster ran away when you threw that stick at it?" Though this idea was highly unlikely, she beamed at him, anyway, taking the moment to start talking her mouth off once more. "Yeah, yeah!" she agreed joyiously. Though her arms remained around Gold's waist, she still managed to jump up and down, pig tails leaping with the motion. "That'll teach it to mess with me! Ya' here that, big scary monster? Lyra Castiel's not gonna be afraid of you no more!" She manuevered around his frame, specifically to make eye contact, only to let out another giggle. She liked this boy. He was cute. The map was forgotten momentarily and Lyra, instead, focused on the way the boy's eyes comically widened and returned to normal as he looked at her Marill. What, had Harmony been making funny faces behind her back? When she turned to look, the blue, sphere-shaped creature still looked the slightest bit displeased, but that was how she always looked. The thought was banished when a smile lit the raven-haired boy's face and, in turn, she smiled as well. "Thanks!" the boy exclaimed after her change of subject. "Me and Aitaro have been traveling together for a long while now. " She and Harmony had been together for over two months, if not three. Did that, too, count as a long while? Boy, she hoped so. She wanted Harmony to be as buff and tough as this... Aitaro. He then added, "Don't sweat about your Marill. With enough training and love, I'm sure she'll be the most awesome Pokemon in no time!"Most awesome Pokemon, huh? She liked the sound of that... "Ya' really think so?" she begged, eyes lighting up with a new sense of determination... and admiration. "Gee, mister, you're real nice! I think I'm gonna hang out with ya' for a little while, huh?" Little while usually added up to a couple of weeks with her, but, you never knew. She'd never gone journeying with another trainer. A little while could be just that - the duriation of the night, maybe a day or two - or so much longer. Chances of the duriation of the night, however, were high, however. "Lyra, huh? That's a nice name!" Gold said with the slightest of blushes. This was easily discarded, however. It was at this point that Lyra decided it was time to start moving. Looking at the map once more, the girl squinted her eyes and titled the map at every angle she possibly could with her one free hand, her other one still around his lower back. When the thin paper had been turned an entire one hundred eighty degrees - upside down, for those of you who did not know - she took another deep breath. "I think... I know which way to go..." And she did think she knew which direction the odd pair should have been heading. Thought they should be heading. Her index finger was jabbed in the direction of somewhere deeper in the forest and, without waiting for a reply, she let go of her new found friend with goggles and dashed deeper into the woods. As to whether he would follow or not, she was not sure - however, for the sake of not ending up cold and alone, she hoped, prayed he did. Her red flats lead her deeper and deeper into the forest. And, for a moment, the trees began to thin out and a spark of hope lit in her stomache. She burst through the line of trees with a clumsy leap, tripping as she landed in an open spot and face planting into the ground. An "ow" escaped her mouth, but the pain from the fall was not her first priority. "Gold! Gold, I found the way -" The pig-tailed female's elated words, however, were abruptly cut off as she looked around. "The way... out..." she finished, her smile fading into a disappionted frown and tears beginning to form in the corner of her eyes. "Aw, we'll never get out now!" she cried, breaking down into tears. Rolling onto her back, guessing as she'd never gotten to her feet, she started at the sky and felt wet, sticky tears roll down the sides of her head. "Gold, Gold!" she wailed, hoping that he would have some idea of what to do. "What're we gonna do? I'm never gonna get out o' here! I'll die here!" She continued on like this, crying with unnecessary drama and thinking that the fact that she couldn't read a map would be the end of her. [/div]

WORDS;; 1424 words. "Memories mend me" 'N one's seen my share.' "Things I can't repair" I'll break it to you.
In response to Lyra asking if the "monster" would come back, Gold quickly shook his head no, hiding a smile. "'Course not. Monsters are real wimpy sometimes." Gold said with a smile, and poked his thumb into his chest and stood up real straight. "But if it decides to come back for revenge, I promise I'll beat the crud outta it!" He stated, and Aitaro stood up next to him and smiled big, letting out a happy cry. "Ambi! (I'll help ya too!)" The Ambipom said. Gold smiled at his Pokemon and laughed a little when the brunette yelled out to the forest that she won't be afraid of monsters any more. "That's the spirit!" Gold cheered, a large grin on his face. When Lyra moved around his body, with her arms still wrapped around his waist, to finally make eye contact, his face flushed a little red once again. This girl was embarrassing, but she was really fun too. At least she wasn't a complete snob like some of the girls he met. It had occurred to him over the years to not talk to a really pretty girl unless she talked to him first, because they usually shot hurtful words his direction or just plain ignored him. He hated girls like that, and was glad to meet someone who didn't think he was some creepy pervert. When Lyra suggested that she should hang out with him for a while, Gold shrugged and smiled big. "Sure, why not. The more the merrier!" He said, and watched as the girl once again took the map to look at it. One second she was there and the next she took off, causing the raven-haired boy to almost fall on his face. Steadying himself, the boy took off after Lyra, his legs pumping him full-speed through the forest. A couple times he almost fell onto a tree, and when he stopped to catch his breath he looked behind him to see Aitaro had kept up, and Gold took off again when he heard Lyra crying out his name through the trees. Upon reaching the brunette, Gold tripped over her and fell on his face as well. When he pushed himself out of the mud, he noticed that Lyra was crying, and his golden eyes narrowed in concern. Aitaro came over and patted Lyra on the back with his hand, and Gold frowned when the girl wailed about never getting out of the forest and dying. "Hey... Don't talk like that!" He comforted, and together him and his Ambipom picked her off of the ground for her to sit on a fallen log. Gold plopped down next to her, letting out a sigh. They'd need to stop and sleep soon, or he'd pass out. Wrapping one mud-covered arm around her shoulders, the raven-haired boy tried his best to comfort the girl, even though he was awkward at it. His face was still a little red, but it didn't feel as awkward to comfort a girl while she cried her eyes out. "Don't worry, I've got a tent and stuff. You can camp out here tonight with me, okay?" He told Lyra, and his Ambipom went up and grabbed one of the girl's hands, a worried frown on his face. Gold sat there with his arm wrapped awkwardly around her, hoping he wasn't gonna make things worse.

Perhaps she was overreacting. Just in the slightest. but who could honestly blame her? She was trapped in a seemingly never-ending forest with no one to turn to but a stranger she had met only minutes in advance. Perhaps she could trust this boy - he seemed a lot like her, after all - but the possibility that he was some sort of creeper who had only acted to kind in order to snatch her away and do unspeakable things to her couldn't help but be planted in the minds of many. Maybe she, herself, did not think that, but there was always a chance.
And, even if he did not have some evil master plan up his sleeve, who was to say that they would still make it out of the forest? The prospect of continuious walking in one direction would surely lead to an exit, but who was to say that they would not faint from exhaustion before that exit was found? And, when they awoke, there was a chance they'd continue in the opposite direction, causing them more harm than good. Of course, speaking of such things would cause one to get ahead of themselve. For a moment, let us backtrack.
As the girl with two pig-tails, both of which curled at an unnatural angle pondered allowed, wondering if the monster would return to them, the boy parallel shook his head. The smallest hint of a smile graced his features, though someone like Lyra would not be able to take notice of such things. He answered, lieing to her quite easily, "Course not. Monsters are real wimpy sometimes." Maybe it was wrong of someone to lie, especially to someone as trusting as this girl. However, he was doing it for her own good. "But, if it decides to come back for revenge, I promise I'll beat the crud outta it!" In response to this, his partner let out a shrill noise - a battle cry, perhaps?
"Yeah, yeah!" the silly female said, squealing in delight once more and looking equally as happy as the duel-colored monkey not far from where she hugged the boy. "You're big an' tough, aren't ya'? You can fight off any meanie monster that'll try an' hurt ya'!" Taking all of this into concideration, the girl mumbled, "Maybe ya' oughts ta' be ma' very own body guard or somethin'..." Of course, she brushed her own thought off as the raven-haired teen cheered, "That's the spirit! Ah, yes. He did seem a lot like her.
Gold's face flushed a bright red for a moment when she made eye contact and the poor child couldn't help but wonder why. "Uh... Mister Gold? Do ya' got somethin' on your face? It's all red an' stuff..." A sudden thought occured to her and she gasped in shock. "Oh no! You're not burnin' are ya'? Oh, no, no, no! This is bad!" With the sudden idea that the boy was setting on fire - of course, had he really been set ablaze, wouldn't she, too, be caught in the intense heat? - she turned to her water-type Pokemon. "Harmony! Oh, Harmony, look! Gold's settin' no fire! We've gots ta' help him out! Use your water gun attack, 'kay?"
That evil, evil little Marill. Of course it knew that the boy wasn't really on fire - it wasn't as pathetically stupid as it's trainer. However, the prospect of firing a cold jet of water into not only her master's face but into this equally pesky male's must have highly appealed to her as a wicked grin spread across the mouse's face and she prepared a water gun. Perhaps that luck the male had earlier with being saved from the branch would come into play then, allowing him to dodge to flow of water. Maybe. Though he'd have to take the girl down with him if he wanted it to miss him.
Once that whole ordeal was done and over with, the boy exclaimed, "Sure, why not? The more, the merrier!" "Mhmm! We're gonna have lots and lots o' fun together, right, Gold?" Hm. Gold. That was a funny name. 'Gold, Gold, Gold. Gold? Gold!' The word wanted to escape her mouth, but she made do with testing the name in her own mind. Hadn't she bothered another boy by repeating his name not long ago? Speaking of that boy... What was his name again? Oh, curses her poor memory. She'd thinkg ot it later. They had more important matters to deal with at that point in time.
And then there was the whole, you know, running into the forest and only getting more lost?
The sound of footsteps behind Lyra hit the girl's ears. Was it the monster, she wondered for a heartbeat, coming back after her know that she'd left Gold in the dust? Oh, why had she left his side? With him, she felt safe. He'd "beat the crud" out of any person who dared to try and hurt her. And now, there she was. Running through a dense forest, utterly and completely... alone. When she looked back - the reason for her fall - not even Harmony had bothered to accompany her master. It was almost... heartbreaking, actually. However, upon looking back, she realized that it was not a monster, but actually Gold. A smile lit up her face for a heartbeat - at least she wasn't alone anymore - until...
Smack!
For a while, as the wind was knocked out of her system, the girl stood there, face buried into a puddle of mud. Her head was lifted from the filt when a second splash reached her ear drum. Wiping the grim away from her eyes with her arm and sleeve - a brand new outfit. Of course it would get covered in mud. - she saw that the golden-eyed trainer had met the same fate she had. Tears had started forming in her eyes when he rose from the ground - partly because it was her fault he'd fallen and gotten even more dirty. The Ambipom - Aitaro, correct? - rubbed her back gently as a way to comfort her. However, that would not assist in calming her down. Escaping the wicked forest would be what finally caused her to settle down. "Hey... Don't talk like that!" As strong arms helped lift her up and away from the puddle of wettened dirt and set her down on a nice and dry log, she couldn't help but feel the slightest bit better. But only in the slightest.
As an arm wrapped around her, she couldn't help but let out the slightest bit of a yelp. The monster - had it truly returned this time? ... No, it was just Gold again. The poor boy... Why was her mind always associating him with some blood thirsty beast? At that moment, he said, "Don't worry. I've got a tent and stuff. You can camp out here tonight with me, okay?" And this left us off with where we were before. How long could his supply last for the two? Though it sounded ubsurd at first, her words had a truth to them - they could die out there without any sort of supplies. Slowly dieing of hunger and dehydration... And that monster... If it was real, who was to say that it would jump out at the two while they were asleep and eat them alive?
Pulling the boy into another hug and burying her face into his filthy jacket, she simply muttered on simple word. "... Okay."

"Memories mend me" 'N one's seen my share.' "Things I can't repair" I'll break it to you.
Gold smiled warmly when Lyra pulled him into a hug and muttered a simple "okay." Moving his arm away from her shoulders, the boy pulled off his backpack and began to dig through it. "I've got lots of stuff to eat in here, you know. Don't worry about goin' hungry or anything!" He told the brunette, and showed her the insides of his backpack. Most of it was junkfood, but it was still something to eat. He grabbed a couple of candy bars out of his backpack and handed one to Lyra then Aitaro, and opened his to take a bite out of it. "I've got all sorts of cool things in here! I have some sandwiches, more candy, and even some marshmallows! I'll get some twigs and stuff for a fire, and we can roast the marshmallows!" He said excitedly, and stood up to walk around the small clearing they were in in search of firewood. Aitaro ran around the clearing too to find some, and together the two produced a pretty big pile of random sticks and twigs. Gold had even managed to get a largish branch of a tree. Turning back to Lyra, Gold smiled and dusted off his hands onto his shorts. "Well, that takes care of that problem! Wanna help me put up the tent?" He asked, and offered a hand to pull her up. She didn't have to take his hand if she didn't want to, but he figured he could try and offer some help.

Camping was fun... right? Family's did it as a fun activity to pass the time and get away from the electronics that sucked up their attention at home. To bond with one another in a way that would not be possible with the stress and whatnot that came from sitting at home all day, every day. Sitting by campfires, munching on gooey treats such as smores, telling stories that would keep the particularly scared ones up all night long, jumping at the sound of every little noise from outside their thin tents. Some did it in the mountains, others by the river side, some just outside town... And, she supposed, some did it in evil forests like these. Well, at least, that's she she'd heard.
Honestly, the brunette had never gone camping in her life.
It was a little sad if one were to think long and hard about it. Camping is either something that people her age love to pieces or hate with a passion. Being as outdoorsy and adventurous as she was, one would think that she'd be one of the few who enjoyed it as much as other teens her age love any of their music or fashion and whatnot. And yet, in all of her seventeen years, not once had she ever gotten the chance to partake in such an activity. It wasn't like she didn't want to, and I'm sure her guardians wanted her to be able to, but so many things just got in her way over the years.
Her parents were always to busy to do much more than play with her on occation when she was younger. The idea of camping was more of a distant fantasy than a quaint little idea that may have very well been a reality with a little work. When her brother died, even bringing up such an idea into conversation was stupid and would be replied to with a glare. When she moved in with her grandparents, they were never fit enough to pack up all of the supplies needed, actually go through with "living" out of their home, and then putting everything back. She was plenty fine playing with Ethan on the route south of Goldenrod. When she moved to the Lyeant Region, camping was probably the last thing on her mind. The idea never even registered in her mind.
Not that many things did, but...
Lyra untangled her arms from around Gold as he smiled at her and bgan to fiddle around with his backpack. Wiping a few stray tears from her eyes, she watched him intently as he dug through it happily. "I've got lots of stuff to eat in here, you know," he told her, probably trying to stay optimistic so she didn't break down in tears again. She was kind of weird like that, bouncing between happy and sad without a moment's notice. Those who were particularly grew to deal with it, though, knowing exactly how to cheer her up whenever something or someone made her bawl. "Don't worry about goin' hungry or anything! She giggle a bit, smiling cheerfully once more, wiping her sleeve across her eyes a couple more times just for good measure.
When she handed him a candy bar, she took it without even a thank you, squealing loudly instead. "Ooo, chocolate!" |
Without a moment notice, she took a huge bite, eating almost half of it in one attack. "Thanks, Gold! she added after a bit, remembering she had to use her manners when someone offered her something. "Mm, this taste real yummy, ya' know? Ya' gots ta have some, too!" Of course, by then, he had already started to eat his as well, so the offer wasn't necessarily... well, necessary. "I've got all sorts of cool things in here!" he continued, clearly excited. His good mood was brushing off easily onto the pig-tailed girl beside him. "I have some sandwiches, more candy, and even marshmallows! I've got some twigs and stuff for fire and we can roast the marshmallows!"She looked at him in confusion at his last remark, confused as to why anyone would want to do something like that. Sense she'd never gone camping - even when on her journey, she only really slept at Pokemon Centers or at the homes of good natured people - roasting marshmallows was one luxury she had neither bared witness to or partaken in. Thinking it was a joke, she laughed loudly, stating, "Oh, Gold, ya' silly willy walnut head~! Why'd ya' wanna put marshmallows in a fire? They're gonna burn or somethin'!" She took a moment to contemplate why anyone would want to put a marshmallow in a fire, only to have the answer hit her like a speeding bullet. "Oh, oh! Do they glow funny colors when ya' set 'em on fire? I wann see that! Yeah, yeah, let's burn some marshmallows!" When the raven-haired teen got up and began circling the clearing with his Ambipom, obviously in search of something, she couldn't possibly fathom why with her infantile mind. "Whatcha lookin' for, Goldy Locks?" she pondered aloud. Hm. Goldy Locks. She liked that nickname. It wasn't meant to be insulting in any way - she wasn't smart enough to throw actual insults someone's way - but she honestly thought it sounded cute. And, if she liked it, wouldn't Gold? When the two started to lift sticks off the ground, she was thrown into confusion once more. "Oh, are we gonna play a game with sticks or somethin'? Oh, wait! We've gots ta' burn 'em! In a big fire, right? Woosh! Ya' know, I got burned once by a fire. My skin was all red an' stuff. It hurt really, really bad; but I'm better now! See?" She held out her right arm, the one that had been attacked by the flames of a kitchen fire, to prove her point. Not a scar or mark to prove it was ever there. "Well, that takes care of that problem! Wann help me put up the tent? A hand was extended her way and, since her arm was already being held out to him, she gladly grasped his hand in her own. "Yeah, yeah! I'll help ya' put up that there tent! But... Uh... I've gots no idea how ya' put up a tent."[/div]

WORDS;; 1125 words. NOTES;; campin' time. "Memories mend me" 'N one's seen my share.' "Things I can't repair" I'll break it to you.
Gold laughed when Lyra commented about how the marshmallows would melt in the fire. "You don't put the marshmallows into the fire! Ya hold them over the fire with a stick. The outside gets burnt, but the inside gets all gooey and it's really good!" He explained to the brunette, and his stomach growled just at the thought of it. The raven-haired boy smiled warmly at the girl before a thoughtful look came across his face. Did marshmallows turn weird colors when you threw them in the fire? Honestly, he had never tried it out before. Who would go so far as to waste a marshmallow by throwing it into the fire? He'd have to try it out someday. When Lyra figured out that he was building a fire, Gold couldn't help but smile. Even if she was a little ditzy, Lyra was loads of fun. Being ditzy wasn't a bad thing at all. Heck, he'd take a ditzy person over some boring know-it-all any day, but that was besides the point. He frowned as the girl told him about the burn she had once got. "Well, at least that burn's all gone now! Even really small burns can hurt pretty bad." Gold said, understanding in his eyes. Even though he'd never gotten badly burned, he had been burned quite a few times starting fires and whatnot. It was times like those that made having a water-type Pokemon handy. When Lyra admitted that she didn't know how to put up the tent, Gold laughed a little, his golden eyes sparkling. "Don't worry about that, I can teach ya! It was really hard for me the first time I put up a tent. My dad taught me, though." He said, a slight hint of sadness on his face. He really did miss home. Turning back to Lyra, Gold started to kick the sticks into a more even pile. "Once I get this fire started, I'll put up the tent. The key to putting it up is to follow the directions! If ya don't, it'll just fall apart and then you'll have no tent." He explained, and laughed a little. It felt a little weird to be explaining all of this, and Gold felt like he was talking too much. Looking at Lyra and smiling, he stretched out a little. "Are you doing okay? You thirsty or anything?" He asked, concern showing just a little on his face.

This certainly was one cheery boy. Cheery was almost an understatement, especially if one were to compare him to someone a tad more gloomy than the average person. Sad as it might have seemed, a lot of people did not particularly care for Lyra and her silly personality. Actually, it sickened a lot of people, causing them to spit rude names at her and leave her all alone, a betrayed and hurt feeling in their wake. The occational person would spend a moment or two and laugh wither, though there was always in a glint in their eyes the female could never process in time that meant that they though of her as their inferior and nothing but.
Had a soul ever truly understood her?
Had someone ever actually felt as though they could relate to her, her mind more developed than that of a child?
This was unlikely. Many others of her generation had jumped at the thought of growing up. The responsibilty, the title, being able to order around those younger than themselves. Maybe a few told themselves that they were never growing up, that they didn't want to let go of their childhoods as they would never get them back. Of course, won't those the most mature and adult like of them all? Certainly, when someone hit the age of seventeen, as much as they wanted to cling to their younger years, they would not act in a manner such as her's. Hanging on to your childhood is one thing; reverting back to a previous state of mind was another thing entirely, was it not?
So people looked down on her.
At least, they had.
There was something different about Gold. The light in his golden-colored eyes - likely where he had recieved his name, though the title could also be used to describe what she'd seen of his personality - did not flicker with a feeling of superiority. The amusement he held was not like an adult playing along with the jokes and actions of a person much younger than they were. His actions did not give away any hint that he pitied her or hated her for being as childish as she was. So, yes, he was a bit cheery. But he understood her, in a way, and accepted her words and actions as much as he would have if they were coming from the lips of a more sophisticated human.
She wouldn't have it any other way.
As the capped boy laughed at her comment about marshmellows bursting into vibrant colors when tossed upon a flame, despite that fact that she didn't understand what was so funny, she couldn't help but smile and giggle along. Had she said been wrong? Dangit, it must have been. Would his opinion of her give way to what every person she'd encountered in the region thought of her? However, his tone of voice told her otherwise as he explained, "You don't put the marshmallows into the fire!" Oh. You didn't? Then what were you supposed to do? Hold them over the heat and watch them transform into crunchy yet gooey desserts? Yeah, right! She highly doubted that - "Ya' hold them over the fire with a stick. The outside gets burnt, but the inside gets all gooey and it's really good!"
Dang.
She was getting good at this.
Another giggle escaped her lips as his belly growled within the span of the ten seconds that followed his words. "Are ya' hungry or somethin'? Or is there a monster livin' in your tummy?" she asked, entirely serious about her question about the monster. As a thoughtful look crossed his face, the same expression fell across her own. Could a monster live in one's stomach? Thriving off of the prechewed foods that passed through the digestive system? If one were to think about it, that would be completely and utterly... impossible. Of course, nothing was impossible in the mind of a seven-year-old which this particular teen seemed to have. Poking her own belly, she asked whatever creatures that she thought might have been lurking in there, "Are there any monster in there? Get out! I don't want no monsters in ma' tummy!"
When the boy had gone searching for firewood and the fact that he was looking for just that - wood to start a fire - her head shot up so fast, she suffered from whiplash. "Ow," she moaned, clutching her head and letting out a groan of pain. "What'd I do ta' make it hurt so bad?" She quickly recovered, though, fast enough to jump up and show the boy the ghost of a past injury. When he frowned, she could help but try and wonder why. It was healed, after all; it couldn't hurt her anymore. "Well, at least that burn's all gone now! Even really small burns can hurt pretty bad." Though she said nothing, her head bounced up and down in understanding, brown curls copying the movement.
Gold was laughing again and she found it to be contagious. How could one not mirror his light hearted chuckles? One would have to be like those two boys she'd met before - Willy and Silvia...? No, no, that wasn't it. Gah, she'd think of names later. - to resist the urge to laugh as well. "Don't worry about that, I can teach ya'! It was really hard for me the first time I put up a tent. My dad taught me, though." In an instant, she'd perked up even more than before. "Really?" she breathed. Honestly, she could have been winning a Nobel Peace Prize and wouldn't have reacted with a happier expression. She was just that simple a person. The comment about his father was brushed aside, though a pained look in her eye for a second could have been caught by a watchful stare.
She didn't want to think about her parents.
Not again.
The boy in the red jacket began kicking the sticks into a messy pile and she couldn't help but wonder if they'd all come tumbling down with the force of one of his blows. Almost as though by magic, however... they didn't. "You're awesome at this, aren't ya'? Did ya' know, Goldy Locks?" Would the boy be bothered by this new nickname? Well, he hadn't reacted badly to it yet - he hadn't reacted at all, in fact - so part of her doubted it. "Once I get this fire started, I'll put up the tent," he told her, laughing a bit as he went on. "The key in putting it up is to follow the directions! If ya' don't, it'll just fall apart and then you'll have no tent." She nodded in understanding, pausing before asking, "Okay! But... Why do ya' need a key for a tent? Do they lock 'er somethin' when ya' close 'em up?"
"Are you doing okay? You thirty or anything?"
The answer to that question was... yes. She was thirsty. Very thirst. Parched, even. The run through the forest with absolutely no supplies to her name had left her longing for a drink. But she couldn't ask anything of Gold - not when he was already working so hard. So she lied, shaking her head. But her eyes betrayed her mind, taking the form of a window to her heart and telling him just that she was lying so he did not have to work for her sake.

"Memories mend me" 'N one's seen my share.' "Things I can't repair" I'll break it to you.
Gold laughed a little at Lyra's comment about the "key" to building a tent. Hopefully he could explain it in a way that made sense to her. "Nah, you don't actually need a key to build the tent. Ya see, it's just... Well it's... it's just a figure of speech I guess." He told the pig-tailed brunette with a shrug. "There's a zipper on the tent, but not a lock or anything. Do you get it?" He asked, and tried hard to come up with a better explanation. Of course, he couldn't find one. Pulling the tent out of it's packaging, Gold searched the bag and pulled out the poles and stuff that he set the tent up with. He hoped his small tent could fit the both of them in it. If not, he could always sleep outside the tent. Not that he really wanted to, because he didn't, but if he had to he would. Pushing his backpack to the side, the raven-haired boy began to try and set up the tent. Of course, right away things didn't go as planned. Not only did he trip over things and fall down several times, the tent itself just didn't seem to want to cooperate with him. His eyes narrowed in frustration, Gold went to kick at the tent only to trip on one of the poles and fall on his face. Today really wasn't his day, was it? Giving one last sigh, the boy left the tent in a heap and walked over to Lyra, scratching the back of his head. "I think I should set up the tent later." He said with an awkward laugh, and went to grab his backpack. Although most campers in the "great outdoors" tried to start fires with rocks and by rubbing sticks together, Gold had a better solution: Matches. As he pulled the matches out of his bag, he remembered how Lyra never made a comment on whether she was thirsty or not. Heck, she looked thirsty, and he had plenty of extra water, so he took a bottle out of his bag and rolled it on the ground towards her direction. He knew that if he tried to throw it to her he might end up hitting her on the head or something. "You look thirsty. Drink all the water you want! I've got lots more." He told the girl, a small smile crossing over his face. Once he pulled the small package of matches out of the backpack, Gold went over to the pile and started to try and light it. He knew from experience that if he got the small sticks burning first the rest would eventually catch on fire. Once he knew that the fire would most likely stay started, the boy sat back with a sigh and stretched out his arms and legs. Today had been a long day, and now it was time to rest. The sun was almost all the way set by now, and the forest around the two teenagers began to look even more creepy than before. Gold was glad that they had the fire to keep their small campsite bright. Looking at Lyra, the boy smiled wide and patted the ground next to him for the girl to come sit by him. Aitaro came and laid down on the ground next to Gold, obviously just as exhausted from the day as his trainer was. "I guess it's starting to get dark now..." He commented, and frowned at the darkness that seemed to be sneaking up on the two and their Pokemon.
