Keiran wandered up in the direction of the lab, looking a bit lost. A messenger bag holding his belongings was slung over the silver-haired teen's shoulder, and he was decked out in comfortable clothes suitable for travel, but he wasn't completely ready. After all, this had not been his choice.
But he could do this. Perhaps.
If he couldn't, there would be a problem, seeing as his dad had already dropped him off and left for work. And at least his first stop was a lab. He understood labs, they were familiar territory, unlike the wilderness he would confront afterwards.
Steeling his nerves, Keiran approached the door. He knocked on it twice, loud enough to be heard and hard enough to make him inspect his smarting knuckles with a wince. Not... the best idea, that.
Was the door open, maybe? He tried it, feeling a bit foolish. It was only a faint feeling, easy enough to ignore.

Professor Pine worked on a research paper while clearly ignoring her Pansage. "Yeah yeah just get back to cleaning" she said irritably while it eyed her, " I already fed you."
Professor Pine heard a loud knock at the door and yelled in her mind, "It's BLOODY OPEN!" but then she remembered that she needed to be nice to this person especially if they were a new trainer so she stood up and got into a correct posture, and opened the door. "Welcome!" and with the welcoming words she lead the boy into the back room. "For grass starters we have Bulbasaur, Chikorita, Treeko, Turtwig, and Snivy. For fire starters we have Charmander, Cyndaquil, Torchic, Chimchar, and Tepig."Last but least we have the riveting water starters Squirtle, Totodile, Mudkip, Piplup, and Oshawat-er She said the last Pokemon name in an attempt at a pun.

Keiran quietly entered, still a bit embarrassed. The door had, in fact, been open. That was a bit of a mistake on his part. Luckily, he was greeted enthusiastically enough. He followed Professor Pine into the back room, secretly a bit put off by the messy state of the place. Hmph, if it was his lab the place would be neat and proper without the help of any assistants.
He listened quietly to the list of starters. Hmm... well, fire Pokemon were often hard to come by, and made good partners early on. So one of them would do. Perhaps a Torchic. They were the ones least likely to accidentally set him on fire on contact.
...and oh, that pun was awful. He mentally groaned.
"I would like a Torchic, if I may," Keiran said, having finished with his deliberation only seconds after she finished listing them out.

Professor Pine noticed the moaning look in his eyes when she made the pun *Eh suckers every time that pun gets them* after laughing silently in her head she remembered the request for a Torchic and then tried another terrible pun or joke, " So would you like that fried or baked? Or hah You sure know how to pick up TorCHICS," Killing herself a little with the last one she apologized to the trainer and grabbed the Torchic off of the shelf. Looking over to the rest of the Pokemon she made the horrible pun again, " I really thought you would pick the Oshawater."
OOC: Pansage: That Torchic was my only friend......

Oh gods this was so awkward. Why did this Professor have to be such a nut? And of course she'd make a picking up chicks pun to someone who was more interested in boys. Of course.
"Um... I'm not... oh, nevermind. Is this it, or do new trainers get any items...?" he asked. He ignored the "oshawater" joke again, and simply looked faintly depressed at the "fried or baked" joke. It really wasn't funny at all. Then again, Keiran didn't have much of a sense of humor. Someone else might appreciate the joke more.
He had the faint but distinct urge to go curl up in the corner and not move. But this wouldn't accomplish anything, and... he really did just want to get his Pokemon and leave now. Sigh. The Professor had made him more anxious to get on with his journey than any prodding by his parents... at least she could do that much. By making him extremely uncomfortable.

Professor Pine handed him the Pokeball and then walked over to the table where she kept the bags of items and the charging Pokedexes. She picked up one of each, and then offered the three things to the boy, "Here you are, then." She was faintly disappointed that he hadn't laughed at any of her jokes, and decided that he must just have a rubbish sense of humor. "Are you sure you don't want any Oshawater?" She tried one last time, but thought it would probably be a lost cause. She glanced at Haru, "Go do... something. That's why I feed you, isn't it?"
OOC:: I'm going to go kill Sky and Leap. :- ) I'm sorry for the wait.

Keiran wordlessly accepted the Pokedex and the items.
"...thanks," he said. Etiquette demanded it, but really... he wasn't too certain here. He was still nervous, still hesitant. The awkward jokes were not helping. He had gotten a Pokemon and the supplies he needed, yes, but... beyond that, had he been prepared for his journey in any meaningful way? Maybe? No?
Yeah, no. He was lost, and confused. So many emotions, none positive. This was unusual, and he did not like it one bit. It was almost better to be a blank slate than tossed and tumbled in a rough sea of nervous tension.
He turned to leave. He didn't want to stay here a moment longer.
[um. What are the starting items, and do I get to pick gender/stats for Torchic?]
