WILD POKEMON
In almost every route in the Lyeant region, you will have the option of fighting and possibly capturing one of the chosen Pokemon from that route. Make sure that, if you want to battle on of these wild Pokemon, you request a mod either in the name of the thread or let one know through PM or over the c-box. There will be a list of the existing Pokemon that can be found on that route for you to choose a Pokemon to battle. If you leave a note of which Pokemon you have your sights set on, a mod will most likely choose one of the listed Pokemon for you to battle.
A mod will choose the Pokemon, it's level, and it's move set for you, and, once they post as that Pokemon, you are allowed to battle it with your own. You are allowed to capture a wild Pokemon if you so choose, though it is almost required that you lower it's hit points to a small amount, if not down to zero. A Pokemon that has fainted is catchable, here. The Pokemon will most likely break free if you do not do this. Pokemon can also flee from battle, however, though this is quite unlikely that they will.
If our staffers are pleased with your role playing or overall attitude, they may grant you with an extra rare Pokemon, a Pokemon with special egg moves, or even a shiny Pokemon. If you see any of these, it might be a sign that the staff is pleased with your behavior.
BATTLING
Levels are one of the most important factors that will determine the outcome of a battle. A Pokemon low in levels will stand little a chance against a Pokemon high in levels. For example, a level five Rattata using stratch will not do as much as a level twenty Rattata using the same move. But levels won't be the only thing determining the fate of a battle, as, sometimes, levels don't apply to a battle at all.
The type match up chart is another huge factor in the course of a battle. Like in the games, a Pokemon who's moves are super effective against the opponent's type is more likely to win. However, it is possible for the Pokemon with a type disadvantage to win - it's just unlikely. If you are unfamiliar with the type matchup chart, we suggest you look it up.
No character is perfect, and this is also true for Pokemon. Your Pokemon will get hurt in battle, no matter how hard you try, and this damage will last the rest of the thread (unless, of course, you have healing moves or items). Likewise, not all of your attacks will hurt the enemy. About two-thirds of your attacks will hit the opponent to make it fair. If you're having troubles with this, try to make it so every third attack misses the opposing Pokemon.
One last thing - you'r not always going to win, even concidering the three points above. Please, don't complain if you lose, and don't brag if you win. The course of the battle is determined by level, type match ups, and even the one who's most creative with the way they attack.
HIT POINTS (HP)
Hit Points (HP) are the numbers used to determine when a Pokemon will faint or how much energy that Pokemon has left during the battle. HP is determined by level, and, with every level you earn, your Pokemon's HP will increase. Every tenth level, your Pokemon will earn 50 hit points - that's five hit points per level you earn. Damaged taken will remain throughout the course of a battle, unless you decide to use a type of Potion or use a move that restores HP. Also, like in real life, injuries (such as a twisted ankle or a broken wrist) will begin to slowly sap your health in battle. Though these types of injuries are uncommon - rare, even - keep this in mind when in a Pokemon battle.
MOVE SET
You are not allowed to come up with moves for your Pokemon based on pure guessing. Your Pokemon are only allowed to learn moves that they would leveling up or through technical machines or hidden machines. We don't expect you to memorize every move your Pokemon learns - in fact, we don't expect that you remember even one of the moves your Pokemon leanrs leveling up. If you are unsure of the moves your Pokemon can learn, look it up! There are quite a few sites (Bulbapedia and Serebii, namely) that have complete lists of the moves a certain Pokemon can learn leveling up, through TM and HM, and from hatching from an egg.
Also, you cannot use a TM/HM on a Pokemon that you don't have. You must first have bought or found said TM /HM in order to use it. You are also allowed six moves per Pokemon, not four, so choose wisely what moves you want and don't want for your Pokemon.
EXPERIANCE
Levels are what determine the strength of your Pokemon, and your levels are determined by the amount of experiance you earn. Experiance itself on this site, however, is almost nonexistant. Levels are determined by posts - for every post your Pokemon battles in, that Pokemon earns one level. Only Pokemon taking part in said post are eligable for this free level - if they are not active, or even if they're only mentioned breifly from within their Poke Ball, they do not earn any levels. In addition, the Pokemon in the post must be battling in order to earn a level, even if only for a few sentances. If the Pokemon is simply there in a post, following their trainer, or something of the sort, they earn no experiance. If an experiance share is being held by another Pokemon in the part, the experiance is being slip between two Pokemon. If this is the case, then it will take two posts where a Pokemon is battling to not only level the Pokemon in battle, but the one stashed away with the item.
EVOLUTION
Pokemon do not simply evolve at the end of a Pokemon battle or by being given a stone, rare candy, or something of the like. Instead, in order to change your Pokemon's appearance and stats, one must purchase an item from the site-wide store that allows them to evolve their Pokemon. This can be purchased at any time.
POKEMON CONTESTS
Pokemon contests are not held in specific towns, like the gyms scattered across the region. Like in the anime, there is a contest hall in every town, but contests will be held in a different town at a pre determined date. Here, at From Sweet Beginnings, contests will be held monthly, starting on the first Friday of said month. If the contest has not been wrapped up before the next contest begins in a different, the other will begin and coordinators will be allowed to compete in both at the same time.
Contests are split into two different rounds. These are the Appeals Round and the Battle Round. During the Appeals Round, coordinators use moves belonging to their Pokemon in order to create a beautiful display for the crowd and judges. Based on the amount of contestants, a select few who did especially well during the Appeals Round will move onto the Battle Round. During the Battle Round, coordinators battle against one another, still using the general ideas of the Appeals Round, only using them in battle. Because these are timed, these should last no more then five posts. If the opponent's Pokemon faint, they are instantly disqualified. If they have not fainted, the winner is determined by whoever showed off their Pokemon's appeal the most between the two. Both rounds can be single or double battles/matches.
STARTER PACK
Every trainer starts out with a couple of simple items that will assist in their journies. Though the numbers of said items might grow, they may be replaced with better items, or they'll all be used up, there no doubt that these contraptions will aid in your character's journey. Trainer or coordinator. Breeder or conniseur. The worst of Team Imum to the most skilled of gym leaders. It's all the same. So, you might be wondering, what do I recieve with my starter pack? No matter your character's rank - unless, of course, they are a Pokemon - you will start off with a trainer card to prove that you are eligable to raise Pokemon. Then, you will recieve five potions, five Poke Balls, one full heal, and your choice between a charcoal, miracal seed, or mystic water. If you wish to have more, you must buy any items from the department store using the point you have earned from posting or awards.
